Seven students earn National Merit Semifinalist status
Congratulations to seven Northwest ISD seniors for earning National Merit Semifinalist distinction! The honor is given to roughly 1 percent of the top-scoring PSAT-takers. From Byron Nelson, Emma Cooley, Rebecca Croucher, Chet Graswich and Maddie Otterson each earned National Merit Semifinalist distinction, as did Northwest’s Aiden Devlin, Kaly Phan and Oliver Ponder.
Pike, Wilson wind ensembles earn national recognition
Pike and Wilson middle schools are now home to nationally renowned wind ensembles! Each school's wind ensemble recently earned national Mark of Excellence distinction from the Foundation for Music Education. Great work by both programs!
High school homecomings taking place in October
Homecoming games are about a month way! Byron Nelson will host the district's first 2019-20 homecoming game on Oct. 4, followed by Eaton on Oct. 11 and Northwest on Oct. 18. Homecoming kings and queens will be crowned either before the game or during halftime, depending on the school. Additionally, each school will host events and dances the week of homecoming.
Ron Myers, Ryan Barnhart named top school administrators in region
The Texas Association of Secondary School Principals’ Region 11 has named Byron Nelson High School’s Dr. Ron Myers and Northwest High School’s Ryan Barnhart its Outstanding Principal of the Year and Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year, respectively, a top honor in the education profession. TASSP annually recognizes the top school administrations from its 20 regions across the state, with nominations and winners selected by their peers based on exemplary performance and leadership.

Northwest ISD Band Showcase taking place Oct. 7
Northwest ISD Band Showcase logo
Join us at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, for the third annual Northwest ISD Band Showcase! This event will feature performances from all three high school marching bands as well as all six middle school bands. The event culminates with a joint performance from all nine bands. Tickets are just $5, and proceeds benefit band programs.
Free, reduced-cost meal grace period ends Oct. 1
Students who received free or reduce-priced meals during the 2018-19 school year automatically receive the same meal benefits for the first 30 days of 2019-20 school. Oct. 1 is the final day for parents and guardians to submit a new application for this school year. After Oct. 1, only students who submitted a 2019-20 application and qualified for the program will receive free or reduced-cost school meals. Registration remains ongoing online for the program.
NEF raises more than $16,000, leading to Dr. Warren's dunking
Thanks to our community for their support on North Texas Giving Day, as the Northwest ISD Education Foundation raised more than $16,000 for student scholarships and teacher grants! Because the foundation exceeded its goals, Dr. Ryder Warren, our superintendent, agreed to be dunked by students at Hatfield Elementary School. Check it out in the video above!
