A Letter from Board Chair: Arrington Mixon
August, 2018

Dear Friends,

The new Vision of Women's Impact Fund is powerful:  A community of philanthropic women impacting the world.

As the board worked to update our  Mission, Vision and Values last year, we questioned whether we could be so bold as to envision impacting the world. While it is true that enumerable lives have been touched by our investment of nearly $5.5 million in 70 individual grants over the past 15 years, does our influence extend beyond Mecklenburg County? We thought of the many agencies we have funded, and reflected on how they have grown and expanded and shared their best practices with others. We recalled reports from those agencies of individuals served making a vow to "pay it forward". Then we began to consider the reach of over 500 diverse, educated, philanthropic and empowered women taking what they have learned through Women's Impact Fund into their various communities of influence. Much like a stone that has been thrown into a still pond, the ripples begin to spread quickly!
Board of Advisors Luncheon Update

We are thrilled with the popularity and excitement around our Board of Advisors Luncheon series.  The September lunch invite/registration went out this week and was filled quickly (more popular than Hamilton tickets!).

The seating at each luncheon is limited to 10 attendees.  It is a first come-first served basis and all members will be given the same opportunity to sign up t hrough the monthly emailed invite (sent out the 2nd Wednesday of the previous month). We are not able to register people in advance.  Members are only able to attend one luncheon each, 100 of our members will participate. If you missed this one, great news is that there will be nine more from October through July!

Volunteers Needed! Tutor Charlotte
By Kathleen O'Bannon

We are so excited to support Tutor Charlotte with our recent SPARK grant of $50,000 and to join them in recruiting volunteers to help the 20,000 kindergarten children in CMS schools increase their reading proficiency.

We need at least 20 volunteers to support one classroom at Billingsville Elementary beginning in Fall 2018. Once enrollment and bell schedules have been determined, we will be able to provide specifics regarding an assigned day and time for our group. We do know that the expected time commitment involves 90 minutes of Active Reading training and then tutoring for 30 minutes each week. Tutor sessions generally occur first thing in the morning (approximately 8:00 a.m.) or at lunch (approximately 11:15 a.m.) on either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Tutoring will most likely begin the first week of October.

Please join your fellow Women's Impact Fund members and the greater Charlotte community in this critical initiative to double third-grade reading proficiency from 39% to 80% by 2025.
