NEW ARRIVALS
POP/ ROCK
Automatic "Signal" [Color Vinyl] LP (Stones Throw)
Like all the best bands, Automatic came together organically. Izzy Glaudini (synths, vocals), Lola Dompé (drums, vocals) and Halle Saxon (bass, vocals) met while immersed in LA's DIY band scene, and started jamming together in 2017. Gaining notoriety for their explosive live shows, they were invited to share the stage with bands like Surfbort, Wand and Flatworms.

Beak> "Life Goes On EP" LP (Temporary Residence Ltd.)
Less than a year after the release of their breakthrough third album, the renowned UK out-rock trio Beak returns with the 'Life Goes On' EP. The four-track EP features the recently released single, "We Can Go", which the band says is "the most normal song we have ever written. We like it." The EP also includes the eponymous title track, which was directly inspired by a recent trip to Mexico City, where the band awoke to the sound of a distorted young girls' voice bellowing across the city. Further investigation revealed the source as a recording used by scrap-collecting carts urging people to bring out old beds and washing machines. Returning to the UK filled with inspiration from the trip, Billy, Geoff and Will hot-footed it to the Invada studios to record the songs that make up this efficient new gem of a record.

Bodywash "Comforter" [Marble color vinyl] LP (Luminelle)
Debut album by the Montreal dream pop / shoegaze band.

Dinosaur Jr "Green Mind" [Deluxe Expanded Edition (Green Vinyl)] 2xLP (Cherry Red)
Dinosaur Jr "Where You Been" [Deluxe Expanded Edition (Blue Vinyl)] 2xLP / 2xCD (Cherry Red)
Dinosaur Jr "Without A Sound" [Deluxe Expanded Edition (Yellow Vinyl)] 2xLP / 2xCD (Cherry Red)
Dinosaur Jr "Hand It Over" [Deluxe Expanded Edition (Purple Vinyl)] 2xLP / 2xCD (Cherry Red)
Dinosaur Jr "Ear Bleeding Country: The Best Of" [2xCD Deluxe Limited Edition] CD (Cherry Red)
Formed in 1984, Dinosaur Jr carved a singular path through the latter half of the 1980s and first half of the 1990s, issuing a number of highly influential albums in the process. Cherry Red is reissuing their first four albums of the 90s on vinyl and CD, each with a bonus disc containing rare tracks. Including 'Green Mind' (1991), 'Where You Been' (1992), 'Without A Sound' (1994) and 'Hand It Over' (1997). Also being reissued is an updated version of 'Ear Bleeding Country: The Best Of', now expanded to 2 CDs to bring their story up to date.

Efterklang "Altid Sammen" LP / CD (4AD)
Altid Sammen (meaning 'always together') is deep and sonorous, steeped in the sonic experimentation that has long been their trademark since 'Tripper,' the Danish band's 2004 debut. As bold and ambitious in scope as their last collection of songs, the band have taken another creative U-turn, this time fusing baroque instrumentation with their signature expansive sound. The band's last release, 'Piramida', centred around a ghost town in the Arctic, was a grand and all-encompassing project that spawned a movie, live album and a series of unforgettable shows (including a live debut at the Sydney Opera House).

Frogs, The "It's Only Right and Natural" LP (End of All Music)
"In 1980, two brothers from Milwaukee named Jimmy and Dennis Flemion formed a band called The Frogs. Eight years, a few thousand dollars, and a self-titled debut album later, they took a call from Gerard Cosloy of Homestead Records. Cosloy wanted to sign The Frogs, but he wasn't interested in their album. Instead, the then frontman of Big Black, Steve Albini, had passed him a tape of The Frogs' brilliantly funny, mostly improvised and home-recorded songs about things like child abduction and homosexuality, and Cosloy wanted to put those out instead. 1989's gay supremacy record 'It's Only Right And Natural...' won The Frogs the patronage of some of the biggest stars [Kurt Cobain, Smashing Pumpkins, Beck, Eddie Vedder] in what people, at the time, had no qualms calling alternative rock" -- Vice

Girl Band "The Talkies" LP / CD (Rough Trade)
'The Talkies' is Girl Band's follow-up album to their ground breaking 2015 debut 'Holding Hands with Jamie.' It was recorded in November 2018 at Ballintubbert House, Ireland ("a few pay grades above what we're used to!"), with the alien construction of Ballintubbert and it's corridors helping to navigate Girl Band's cataclysmic sound within a world of it's own.

Goldfrapp "Black Cherry" [Limited Purple Vinyl] 2xLP (BMG)
Reissue of her 2002 album.

Good Fuck "Cherry Tree" LP (Goof Duck)
"10 New Songs. Think Badlands and Pierrot Le Fou, mythic romantic road-trips. Bonnie and Clyde, but with Alan Watts paperbacks in their backpacks. Like that new Gaspar Noe documentary Climax. The cherry tree's uncommon embodiment of both American and Buddhist mythologies seemed a fitting image to contain it all." -- Tim Kinsella & Jenny Pulse

Hiett, Steve "Down On The Road By The Beach" LP (Be With / Efficient Space)
For the first time since it's inception in 1983, Steve Hiett's elusive 'Down On The Road By The Beach' is finally made available outside of Japan. Mostly recognized in the fashion sphere as an English photographer and graphic designer, Hiett's transportive audio portraits amplify his serpentine guitar to the infinite blue, recorded across Paris, Tokyo and New York. Near-ambient arrangements that float in a space between The Durutti Column, Steve Cropper, and Ashra, 'Down On The Road By The Beach' also crowns Hiett the master of recontextualization with his zero-gravity blues visions of "Roll Over Beethoven", Santo & Johnny's "Sleep Walk" and the 1967 Eddie Floyd soul hit, "Never Found A Girl".

Hiett, Steve "Girls In The Grass " LP (Be With / Efficient Space)
Three emotional years in the making, Be With and Efficient Space present Steve Hiett's 'Girls In The Grass.' Pressed alongside the long-awaited reissue of his one-shot masterpiece, 'Down On The Road By The Beach,' these ten Balearic soul instrumentals are of equal necessity; unrivalled beauty rescued from the fashion photographer-guitarist 's Paris Tapes (1986-1997). While recordings unintended for release should often be approached with caution, this is a rare case of unheard material being assembled as an indispensable and coherent piece.

Interpol "Antics" [White vinyl] LP (Matador)
Limited white vinyl reissue of their second album, originally released in 2004.

Johnson, Will "Wire Mountain" [indie vinyl] LP / CD (Keeled Scales)
'Wire Mountain' is Will Johnson's 6th solo album and sits atop a back catalog that includes Centro-matic, South San Gabriel, Marie/Lepanto, and Molina Johnson. When he's not writing and recording his own projects he's often contributing to others, like co-producing Austin Lucas' 'Immortal Americans,' or playing drums in Strand of Oaks. 'Wire Mountain' is Johnson's second album recorded with Britton Beisenherz at his Austin studio Ramble Creek Recording and together they further develop new palettes and textures for Johnson's songs, this time enlisting fellow Austinites Thor Harris (of Swans and Thor & Friends) and minimalist folk-duo Little Mazarn to help shape and define them.

Kinkel-Schuster, Justin Peter "Take Heart, Take Care" LP (Big Legal Mess)
"The best artists teach us how to live. The title of Justin Peter Kinkel-Schuster's new LP is a double-edged directive: 'Take Heart, Take Care.' This album is a call-to-arms for those of us given over to despair not to throw in the towel. It's a place you can take solace in the midst of chaos and collapse, a pal who will put you up and feed you and remind you of the good things no matter how close to the ledge you are. It takes pain and transforms it into something that can be put to use. It's like good summer light on the horizon. These dreadful days, I promise, it'll make for a damn good and necessary companion. There's not a single track here that doesn't deserve disciplined attention. Kinkel-Schuster's voice soars and brightens even the darkest corners. Often a song that seems destined to break for the bottom of things rises into the air, as if touched by magic." -William Boyle

Korn "The Nothing" CD (Roadrunner)
New album, the band's first since 2016.

Le Butcherettes "Live At Clouds Hill" LP (Cloud Hill)
Part of the live series at Clouds Hill studios, recorded on March 25th of this year. Le Butcherettes, founded in 2007 by Teri Gender Bender, captivates with a mixture of noisy songs which are always catchy enough to stay in the listener's head. How wild the live shows can be, the band showed during their gig in the Clouds Hill Studios. The special thing about Le Butcherettes is the deliberately used theatricality and the tendency to the big gesture, which gives the band it's own special touch. Friends and fans of PJ Harvey, The Mars Volta and The Flaming Lips will love this limited release. An unforgettable evening that Johann Scheerer recorded on 24 track tape.

Little Wings "People" LP (Little Wings)
The latest thrummer from the pan of So Cal featuring the fully realized Little Wings live band exceptionally recorded by Kyle Mullarky - this one delves into 'People'... touching on current themes such as photos of ourselves, messages we may send, bad news, no suicide, and paradise. Quite possibly the strongest album to date from a 20 year + veteran troubadour who grows deeper and richer with age.

Lizzo "Cuz I Love You" LP (Atlantic)
Third studio album and major label debut by rapper and singer Lizzo. The album is Lizzo's first release since her 2016 'Coconut Oil' EP. Lizzo stated at the album preview party at the Crazy Girls strip club in Hollywood on January 30 that she has been working on the album for three years. She also previewed a collaboration with Missy Elliott titled "Tempo". Along with the lead single "Juice", the album includes the empowering dance track "Like a Girl" and a song dedicated to an ex titled "Jerome".

Metronomy "Metronomy Forever" CD (Because Music)
The follow-up to 2016's 'Summer 08', 'Metronomy Forever' features 17 tracks. Its length is born from a desire for breathing room, from not wanting to stuff the hits together like a bouquet of petrol station roses - a modern way of listening to music.

Moon Duo "Stars are the Light" [orange vinyl] LP / CD (Sacred Bones Records)
'Stars Are the Light,' the luminous seventh album by the American psych explorers Moon Duo, marks a progression into significantly new territory. From a preoccupation with the transcendental and occult that informed Ripley Johnson and Sanae Yamada's guitar-driven psych rock, and reached its apotheosis in the acclaimed 'Occult Architecture' diptych, 'Stars Are the Light' sees the band synthesize the abstract and metaphysical with the embodied and terrestrial.

Moser, Jordan "Long Night" LP / CD (Keeled Scales)
Jordan Moser's label debut 'Long Night' is witty, literary folk-country in the vein of the Texas outlaw greats, with nods to folks like John Prine and Guy Clark. Molly Burch sings on all 8 tracks of this record, including the country duet "Road To Trouble" that closes it out. Jordan's lyrics stand out as sage, irreverent, and dark-night-of-the-soul and can traverse so many emotions within one line. An artist in many mediums, Jordan has been a ballet dancer professionally for the past 10 years with Ballet Austin, as well as a prolific filmmaker, having crafted three music videos for Molly Burch and choreographing and dancing in Adam Torres' breathtaking video for "Juniper Arms."

New Pornographers "In The Morse Code Of Brake Lights" LP / CD (Concord Records)
This is their eighth record as a band and second for Concord Records. The album is full of classic songwriting with twisting lyrical content that touches on the humanistic side of life in current times, craftfully penned by frontman A.C. Newman. The Morse Code Of Brake Lights first single is titled "Falling Down the Stairs of Your Smile." The song lays out what sounds like a New Pornos take on the "Billie Jean" groove at the beginning, and foregrounds the band's characteristic blend of A.C. "Carl" Newman and Neko Case of dual lead vocals.

Red River Dialect "Abundance Welcoming Ghosts" [white vinyl] LP / [black vinyl] LP (Paradise of Bachelors)
New album finds the British folk-rock band relaxing into a natural, playful confidence: tangling with the thickets, wading in the river, digging the peat, and disappearing into the mountains.

Summer Hits "Beaches and Canyons 1992-1996" CS (Burger)
Widely known for their ability to mix The Beach Boys' melodies with My Bloody Valentine's noise, The Summer Hits were the loudest, most wonderfully unique pop band on the planet during the 1990s. This cassette, brought to you by Burger Records, is a compilation of their early singles that have long been out of print. In their words: "The Summer Hits group strongly recommend you groove to these songs the way in which they were laid down; that is to say, at a deafening volume while ut terly loaded."

Tegan and Sara "Hey, I'm Just Like You" [Indie Exclusive Opaque Canary Yellow Vinyl] LP / CD (Warner Bros.) Twenty years into their career, Tegan and Sara have recorded a new album that is based on the first songs they ever wrote. 'Hey, I'm Just Like You' is a return to Tegan and Sara's rock and punk roots, with a punch of pop production. Defiant and melodramatic, the songs capture the exultation and grief of first loves, first losses, ecstatic kiss-offs, and psychedelic tributes to friendship. Available on limited edition, indie exclusive canary yellow vinyl.

HIP HOP
Atmosphere "God Loves Ugly" 3xLP [Repress] (Rhymesayers)
Atmosphere's third official studio release, the critically-acclaimed 'God Loves Ugly,' has been re-packaged for re-issue, but it remains as ugly as ever. Originally released in 2002, it helped to cement the duo's foothold in the independent hip-hop scene, placing them at the forefront of the emerging subgenre of emo-rap. Slug and Ant weave tales of sorrow, frustration, and forgiveness together seamlessly over beds of melancholic melodies that swell with tension and angst amidst bone-cracking snares and taut bass lines. With some of the most beloved classics in Atmosphere's catalog, including "F*** You Lucy," "Godlovesugly," "Lovelife," "Modern Man's Hustle" and "Shrapnel," 'God Loves Ugly' was effectively a lesson on processing pain without becoming a victim to it.

Atmosphere "Seven's Travels" 3xLP [Repress] (Rhymesayers)
Atmosphere's fourth official studio release, 'Seven's Travels,' has been re-packaged and is reissued on vinyl for the first time in over six years. Historically speaking, this album marked where the group first saw commercial success. Originally picked up and distributed by Epitaph records, 'Seven's Travels' saw Atmosphere's reach extend beyond the brick and mortar shops and message boards, all the way to Target store shelves and MTV2. Coincidentally, the album also saw them taking a more humorous and light-hearted look at themselves than their previous release, 'God Loves Ugly.'

DJ Screw "Stressed Out" 2xLP (Sic Records)
An official Screwed Up Click x Sic Records collaboration, curated By Lil Randy & Creepshow

Canned Heat "s/t" [Gold Vinyl] LP (Sundazed)
Canned Heat's eponymous 1967 debut LP, released shortly after their attention-getting performance at the Monterey International Pop Music Festival, introduced the band's audacious synthesis of blues tradition and electrified boogie. The 11-song album features raw, fiercely soulful interpretations of material by such blues masters as Howlin' Wolf, Elmore James, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters and Sonny Boy Williamson, powered by Al Wilson and Bob Hite's contrasting vocal styles and Henry Vestine's explosive fretwork. The result is one of the most distinctive and dynamic blues-rock recordings of the '60s, and the album that launched Canned Heat's five-decade musical journey.

Frehley, Ace "Anomaly" [Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition] LP (eOne)
On the heels of the historic KISS Reunion Tours (from 1996 to through 2001) Ace Frehley began laboring over the material that would culminate in the 2009 release of Anomaly - the highest charting Frehley solo album since his self-titled debut in 1978. Allmusic said Anomoly, "surprised even longtime supporters with it's forceful, confident performances and sharp songwriting." Flaunting fiery riffs, pristine production by Marty Fredrickson and jaw-dropping craftsmanship, Anomaly ties together the axeman's trailblazing past, present and future. 'Anomaly: Deluxe (10th Anniversary)' comes pressed on colored 180g vinyl 2LP with a new embossed cover and contains the recently remastered audio plus three bonus songs ("Hard For Me," "Pain In The Neck (slower version)," "The Return Of Space Bear").

ROCKABILLY / 50s-60s / SURF
Rockin' Ramrods, The  "s/t" [Coke Bottle Clear Vinyl] LP (BeatRocket)
The Rockin' Ramrods were an American garage rock band from Boston, Massachusetts, who were active in the 1960s and early 1970s. Their catchy, garage rock/protopunk bops have been covered by everyone from Muddy Waters to Ariel Pink. This compilation has been reissued thanks to BeatRocket and is now available on coke bottle clear vinyl.

PROG & PSYCH
Kak "s/t" LP (Mad About Guerssen)
A west coast classic back on vinyl at last! Recorded in 1968, the lone album by the group known as Kak is a beloved masterpiece, full of the inspiration and promise associated with the California psychedelic dream. The oddly-named, eminently talented quartet from the college town of Davis was together less than a year from start to finish, yet within that short time created a record renowned for powerful performances, solid production values, and the brilliance of it's song craft, with a full playlist of compelling material like "Electric Sailor", "Lemonaide Kid", and "Trieulogy". Kak can stand nobly alongside records like 'Surrealistic Pillow' (1967), 'Electric Music For The Mind And Body' (1967), 'Sailor' (1974), or the first Moby Grape album (1967) as one of the most satisfying listens of the late 1960s SF rock renaissance. This newly remastered vinyl edition features extensive liner notes by Kak aficionado Alec Palao, with contributions from band members Gary Lee Yoder, Dehner Patten, Joe-Dave Damrell, and Chris Lockheed. Housed in heavy cardboard sleeve plus obi; Color, four-panel insert with photos and liner notes.

Litter, The "Distortions [Red Vinyl w/ Black Swirls] LP (Sundazed)
Minneapolis was their home turf. But in the decades that followed, appreciation for 'Distortions' swelled to tidal wave proportions among fans of amped-up, ramped-up, balls-to-the-wall rock 'n' roll. Headlined by two red-hot, stone-cold killers, "Action Woman" and "Soul Searchin'", both penned by producer Warren Kendrick. 'Distortions' is arguably the greatest private-press garage band album of the era. The Litter formed in 1966 as a merger between two popular Twin Cities combos.

Big Scenic Nowhere "Dying On The Mountain" LP / CD (Blues Funeral Recordings)
From the riff-explosive mind of Fu Manchu guitarist Bob Balch and Yawning Man creative force Gary Arce comes a true supergroup of desert rock legends. This debut EP offers 25 minutes of jammy, doomy psychedelic rock and includes performances from Nick Oliveri (Kyuss, QoTSA), Tony Reed (Mos Generator), Mario Lalli (Fatso Jetson), Lisa and Ian of The Well, and Thomas Jager (Monolord)

Borknagar "True North" CD (Century Media)
Norway's avant-garde black metal pioneers and innovators Borknagar arise at their most spirited and resplendend on their 11th studio album, 'True North.' Succeeding 2016's acclaimed 'Winter Thrice' release and 25 years into the band's existence, Borknagar's characteristically varied fusion of musical styles and inimitable layered vocal arrangements elevates the hour-long array of these nine new tracks to a sonic spectacle of epic proportions and undisputable grandeur.

Broken Teeth "Electric" CD (Rock Army Records)
High Energy Old School Metal Rock, Members of broken Teeth include a group of Texas musicians who have been playing hard rock and metal for decades. Once described as "a pissed-off AC/DC," Broken Teeth has evolved into a hard-rock/heavy metal bomb blast built on the swaggering boogie of bad-boy blues. Members of Dirty Looks, Pariah, and Dangerous Toys are ingredients of Broken Teeth. Available now is 2007's 'Electric.'

Creeping Death "Wretched Illusions" LP / CD (eOne)
Creeping Death quickly ascended to the top of the modern death metal pile with sheer determination, single-minded focus, bludgeoning heaviness, and breakneck intensity. The band's blistering new full-length platter, 'Wretched Illusions,' raises the stakes with undeniable and unrelenting anthems like "Bloodlust Contamination," "World Decay," "Corroded from Within," and album opener "Ripping Through Flesh." Each of the record's ten tracks is a certified ripper, keeping those baseball bat swings coming, over and over.

Dangerous Toys "The R-tist 4-merly Known as Dangerous Toys" CD (DMZ Records)
Reissue of their 1995 album. "By the time Dangerous Toys released this album (their final studio album) the glory days of 80s metal had long since passed, leaving what amounts to this band's finest effort virtually ignored. Diverse elements can be found here, ranging from NIN, Nirvana, Bowie and Alice In Chains as the band blasts through 13 heavy alternative-rock tracks"

Evil United "Serpent" LP (EMP Label Group)
Evil United is a heavy metal/thrash metal act from San Antonio/Austin, Texas formed in 2011. Made up of Broken Teeth, Riot and Murderdolls members, EU will definitely quench the thirst on your heavy metal pallet and make you wanna gargle nails and then spit them out with AK-47 intensity, impaling non-believers. The band also features former Watchtower vocalist Jason McMaster. Now in stock is their newest release, 2019's 'Serpent.'

Hand of Doom, The "Poisonoise" LP (On the Dole)
Originally released in 1979 with only 500 numbered copies. Nowadays it usually goes for $700+ at Discogs, Ebay and similar. When hearing The Hand of Doom it's easy to understand why. It's like The Stooges fronted by Count Dracula with a pinch of Roky Erickson 'The Evil One'-era thrown in for good measure. Think the most punky and brutal NWOBHM-singles that has ever been recorded. A maximum rock'n'roll guitar riff-a-rama. It's a DIY punk-metal masterpiece most likely to blow the minds off everyone into any form of truly great music.

Opeth "In Cauda Venenum" [Swedish & English Versions] CD (Nuclear Blast)
Sweden's Opeth are preparing to release their most important record to date with 'In Cauda Venenum'. Certainly, fans and critics will have their opinion, but few records in the Swedes' oeuvre are as engaging, delicate, panoramic, intense, and musical as Opeth's lucky thirteenth. While a record in Swedish is a first-there's also an English version-for frontman and founding member Mikael Åkerfeldt, the 10 songs on offer feel and sound completely natural. As if years of listening to and being a fan of Swedish rock and hard rock has paid off.

v/a "Jobcentre Rejects Vol 2- Ultra rare NWOBHM 1980-1985" LP (On the Dole)
The second volume of Jobcentre Rejects is here. Prepare yourself for a NWOBHM fest beyond control. This compilation features ten tracks licensed from rare and hard to find New Wave Of British Heavy Metal records originally released in England 1980-1985. Kind of like a 'Nuggets,' 'Pebbles' or 'Killed By Death' for NWOBHM. Set the volume control to maximum level and knock yourself out with obscure but brilliant sounds from bands like Omen Searcher, Bashful Alley, Sapphire and Panza Division. File under: "beyond essential listening for any rock'n'roll fan".

JAZZ & IMPROVISED MUSIC
Coltrane, John "Blue World" LP / CD (Verve)
In 1964, the National Film Board of Canada asked John Coltrane to record the soundtrack for a French-language film titled "Le Chat dans le Sac" ("The Cat in the Bag"). Amazingly, no announcement was made that the iconic Coltrane was adding new performances to this film. In June of that year, Coltrane's 'Classic Quartet' entered Rudy Van Gelder's studio and recorded five previously recorded Coltrane originals. For many years, viewers of the film who recognised the music thought that they were listening to the original recordings, though in fact they were new and had never been heard. Now, with the release of 'Blue World', we can hear these newly discovered recordings for the first time.

Golding, Binker "Abstractions of Reality Past and Incredible Feathers" LP (Gearbox Records)
Binker Golding is a musician of many talents - one half of London trailblazers Binker and Moses, skilled composer, educator at Tomorrow's Warriors, frequent collaborator with top musicians from the London jazz scene one of the most impactful saxophonists of our times. His new album 'Abstractions of Reality Past and Incredible Feathers' was recorded at Abbey Road Studios, mixed by the legendary James Farber (Michael Brecker, Joe Lovano, Brad Mehldau), and mastered and cut at Gearbox Records. The record features a distinctive quartet with Joe Armon-Jones on piano, Daniel Casimir on double bass, and Sam Jones on drums. Golding's quartet project promises to make waves as it maps a path between the more through-composed jazz fusion of previous decades and the hip hop/broken beat-influenced sound of the contemporary London jazz scene.

Konstrukt + Ken Vandermark "Kozmik Bazaar" LP (Karlrecords)
Turkish free jazzers Konstrukt continue their series of exciting collaborations with Ken Vandermark, one of the key figures of Chicago's vivid jazz scene. After two critically acclaimed albums with the Japanese avant-garde/noise icon, Keiji Haino, Konstrukt return with a new inspiring collaborative mind: Ken Vandermark, who for three decades now has been a highly prolific musician in contemporary jazz and free improvisation.

McNeill, Lloyd "Elegia" LP / CD (Soul Jazz)
Soul Jazz Records are releasing flautist Lloyd McNeill's album 'Elegia' (1980). Originally released on the artists' own private press Baobab label in New York, the album is a serious collectors piece, a heavyweight and fascinating fusion of deep spiritual jazz with Brazilian rhythms and melodies. The album has been out of print for nearly 40 years. This groundbreaking album is the culmination of Lloyd McNeill's many years involved with Brazilian musicians and features the great percussionist Nana Vasconcelos alongside fellow Brazilians Portinho and Dom Salvador, and US jazz musicians including bassist Cecil McBee.

Otsuka, George Quintet "Physical Structure" LP (Les Tres Jazz Club)
Originally released in 1976. Reissued for the first time outside of Japan, 'Physical Structure' by Japanese drummer George Otsuka is an amazing jazz-fusion album, featuring Fumio Karashima on the piano, electric piano, synth, and Fender Rhodes and Shozo Sasaki on tenor and soprano sax. Check the surprising and sublime cover of "Naima" which alone justifies getting this record. Also features Mitsuako Furuno (bass) and Norio Ohno (percussion). Recorded on February 11, 1976.

Sanders, Pharoah "Moon Child" LP (Tidal Wave Music)
Reissue of the 1989 album.

COUNTRY
Klatt, Jack "It Ain't The Same" LP (Yep Roc)
Part balladeer and part bluesman, Jack is a dedicated songwriter and finger-style guitarist based in Minneapolis, MN. His sound pulls from a wide range of American music. From Rhythm and Blues and early Rock N Roll, to country and folk music, Jack brings his own voice to all of his songs. In the words of Americana Roots UK, "Jack doesn't rely on other writers for his diversity, he can write in pretty much any musical style of his choosing."

Prine, John "In Spite Of Ourselves" [pink vinyl] LP (Oh Boy Records)
Reissue of his 1999 album.

Simpson, Sturgill "Sound & Fury" [Indie Exclusive Red Marble Vinyl] LP / CD (New Elektra)
Sturgill Simpson has been on a roll lately: he produced a movie based on his own short story and wrote the entire soundtrack, which is now available on limited edition red marble vinyl and CD. The album - which Simpson describes as "a sleazy, steamy rock n roll record" accompanies the film which merges American rock music and Japanese animation in a revolutionary new way.

v/a "Hillbillies in Hell: Volume 9" LP (Iron Mountain Analogue Research)
Behold...the River of Earthly Torments, the Cavern of Hypocrites and the Lake of Fools. This Hell- Bound collection of weathered Nashville legends and battered backwoods-poets features tales of Sinful Lusts, Barroom Executions, Gospel Redemptions and Problematic Parenting. Often originally waxed on marginal labels and distributed in minuscule amounts, these Troubled Troubadours sing of the King of Lies, His Eternal Web, dismal, tortured Ghostly Inebriates and smouldering, tearful Abandonment. Years in the making - 'Hillbillies In Hell' (Volume 9) presents 16 timeless tribulations - Luciferian Trysts, Satanic Temptations, grisly Masonic Assassinations and Heathen Cosmologies. A daemonic stash of forgotten 45s - some of these sides are impossibly rare and are reissued here for the very first time. All for your breathless listening pleasure.

v/a "Strut My Stuff" [Green Vinyl] LP (Modern Harmonics)
For every successful hit act that cracked the charts in the early 50s to mid 60s, there were thousands of obscure artists exhibiting genuine country numbers free from mainstream oversight. Strut My Stuff rounds up such enigmas as the hectic hillbilly bopper "You've Been Honky Tonkin', the shotgun-wedding scenario of "My Inlaws Made An Outlaw Out Of Me," and many more farm-raised rarities! Collected here on green vinyl is a cross section of this field.

v/a "The World Is A Monster: Lonesome, Blue And Jump Jivin' Hillbillies From The Columbia Vault (1950-1958)" LP (Iron Mountain Analogue Research)
From the people who brought you 'Hillbillies In Hell...' Out of the ashes of World War II, post-war Corporate U.S.A would sully its hands with anything in search of a buck. Even Hillbilly music...Here, reissued for the first time, are 18 of the grimiest, most delicious slabs of Hillbilly misery, debauchery and mayhem to grace the Columbia Records imprint. A forgotten cache of subterranean 78s and marginal 45s - some of these sides are impossibly rare and are reissued here for the very first time. All for your guilty listening pleasure.

Wall, Colter "s/t" [pink vinyl] LP (Young Mary's Record Co)
Colter Wall is a Canadian country music singer whose style dabbles in folk, Americana, and blues. His voice has resemblance to Johnny Cash, and performance and his lyrics are similar to Townes Van Zandt and Hank Williams. This album, along with ten others, have been reissued on limited edition pink vinyl to benefit Gilda's Club NYC--an organization that provides community support for both those diagnosed with cancer and their caretakers.

REGGAE / DUB

SOUL / FUNK / R&B
Scone Cash Players "Canned Champagne b/w Instrumental" 7" (Daptone)
Take one heaping helping of hard-nosed drums, a double dose of off-the-wall organ, a pinch of chicken-scratch guitar, and slather it all in the greasy vocals stylings of rising star, Jason Joshua, and what you get is quite possibly the rawest slab of party funk to hit the scene since the heady days of Desco and Soul Fire records.

Sure Fire Soul Ensemble, The "Build Bridges" [coke bottle clear] LP / CD (Colemine Records)
The Sure Fire Soul Ensemble is a staple of the west cost soul/jazz/funk scene and with their third LP, they solidify their position. Heavy grooves and drums, with top tier musicianship and writing. 'Build Bridges' is just as sophisticated as it is soulful and funky! Available on limited edition coke bottle clear vinyl as well as CD.

V/A "Visible & Invisible Persons Distributed In Space" LP (Numero Group)
This unwieldily titled collection documents ten successful experiments in privately-issued sci-fi soul music, lonely transmissions from a planet in a state of cultural fugue. Packaged in a one-way portal to the further limits of expression. Some assembly required.

WORLD MUSIC
Grup Dogus "s/t" LP (Ironhand)
Grup Dogus (literally means "rising") is a unique type of band among the others in the soundscape of "Gastarbeiter" (guest workers). The band is formed by two brothers, who were guest workers emigrated from Turkey to Germany. Tufan Aydogan, also attributed as "Hammond Tufan, the Conqueror of all the Organs" by Baris Manço, was organist and the vocalist of the band while his brother Muhittin Aydogan was on bass, Koray Dikmen on drums, and Sedat Ürküt on guitar and vocals. While performing in nightclubs, by a good coincidence, they received a proposal to record for a one-take album to be issued on cassette in 1975. This low-selling cassette album full of Anadolu pop repertoire was almost forgotten till now. Selected tracks from the album have been remastered and released in vinyl format - as it had long deserved.

COMPOSERS / LIBRARY / NEW AGE
Anderson, Laurie, Tenzin Choegyal, & Jesse Paris Smith "Songs from the Bardo" LP (Smithsonian Folkways) 'Songs from the Bardo' begins with a bell ringing out once, twice, three times, as a ritualistic chant emerges from the dense silence. The collaborative composition by avant-garde icon Laurie Anderson, Tibetan multi-instrumentalist Tenzin Choegyal, and composer and activist Jesse Paris Smith is a guided journey through the visionary text of the Tibetan Book of the Dead, unfolding in an 80-minute ebb and flow of sound and words.

Hinata, Toshifumi "Broken Belief" LP (Music From Memory)
'Broken Belief' brings together a selection of recordings by Japanese multi-instrumentalist Toshfumi Hinata drawn from a body of work originally recorded between 1985-1987. Attending Berklee College of Music after spending time living in both the United States and the United Kingdom, Hinata would study under the tutelage of pianist Patricia Laliberte, graduating from the esteemed American school in 1982. Returning to Japan after becoming disillusioned with his classical training, Hinata experimented with many different forms of music. Moving away from depending simply on acoustic instruments, he would instead become entrenched in the possibilities of the latest analog synthesizers being developed at the time.

Inoyama Land "Commissions: 1977-2000" (CLEAR) LP (Empire of Signs)
Makoto Inoue and Yasushi Yamashita's Inoyama Land project spans nearly four decades and is still active to this day. This collection expands upon their sound heard on 'Kankyo Ongaku: Japanese Ambient, Environmental & New Age Music 1980-1990' to illuminate material that is even lesser known outside of Japan - some of it presented publicly for the first time.

ELECTRONIC
Nosaj Thing "Drift" [Repress] LP (Timetable)
An entire decade has passed since the release of Nosaj Thing's critically acclaimed masterpiece of an album, 'Drift.' Telefon Tel Aviv "Dreams Are Not Enough" [gold clear splat] LP / [black] LP (Ghostly International)
The return of storied Southern Gothic electronic entity Telefon Tel Aviv after nearly a decade is as unexpected as it is impressive. An undercurrent of eerie melancholy flows through the album, manifested in shivering widescreen meditations, depressive twilit modern pop, and devotional industrial abstractions. Available on limited edition golden splat vinyl and black vinyl.

EXPERIMENTAL
Cortini, Alessandro "VOLUME MASSIMO" CD (Mute)
In his solo work and as a member of Nine Inch Nails, Alessandro Cortini's music casts the listener into an intricately rendered vortex of emotive dynamics, where he expertly maximizes the boundaries of contemporary electronic music. 'Volume Massimo,' combines his fondness for melody with the rigor of experimental practice. It follows on from 2017's universally acclaimed album Avanti.

Dome "Dome 3" LP (Editions Mego)
With the demise of the group Wire in 1980, founder members Bruce Gilbert and Graham Lewis joined forces to create Dome. With the assistance of engineer Eric Radcliffe and his Blackwing Studio Dome took the ethic of "using the studio as a compositional tool" and recorded and released three Dome albums on their own label in the space of 12 months: 'Dome' (July, 1980), 'Dome 2' (October, 1980), and 'Dome 3' (October 1981). A final fourth album, 'Will You Speak This Word: Dome IV' was released on the Norwegian Uniton label in May 1983. These albums represent some of the most beautifully stark and above all timeless exercises in studio experimentation from early 1980s alternative music scene.

Fortune, Iona "Tao Of I Volume 2" LP (Ecstatic)
Iona Fortune crystallizes and convects enchanting thoughts on the legendary I Ching in a keenly awaited second volume of 'Tao of I,' following from her resoundingly acclaimed 2017 debut for Optimo Music, where lustrous synthetic subbass meets traditional Chinese strings with sublimely spirited and timeless effect. Issued by Ecstatic as the second of eight albums by Iona exploring hexagrams of the I Ching, or "The Book of Changes" - a 2,500-year-old Chinese divination text referenced extensively in religion, art, philosophy, psychoanalysis, science, and mathematics.

KMFDM "Paradise" CD (Metropolis)
The Ultra Heavy Beat returns! Blending techno innovation, punk snarl and metal aggression, 'Paradise' is a an impactful set of dance beats, crunching guitars & the dual vocal attack of founders Sascha K. & Lucia Cifarelli. 'Paradise' finds a focused, furious, fed-up KMFDM at it's finest. Standout tracks such as "K-M-F, Paradise," & "Disturb The Peace" stand as a bold declaration of purpose - a call to action.

Mosquitoes "Vortex Veering Back to Venus" LP (Feeding Tube)
"After two fine self-released records and the superb 'Drip Water Hollow Out Stone' on the great Ever/Never label, Feeding Tube is honored to present the Mosquitoes' latest assault on the temples of beauty. The music on 'Vortex' is of a piece with earlier recordings. By this, I mean there is a wonderfully 'out' approach to basic rock instrumentation and vocals, which détourns the basic assumptions listeners have about what rock instruments sound like. A good number of bands have done this in the modern era, from This Heat to U.S. Maple, but the only band the Mosquitoes continually call to my mind is late period Mars." -- Byron Coley

Spiluttini, Dino "Heaven" LP (Editions Mego)
'Heaven' is a work of contemporary church music. Centrally occupied with the subject of death, its conceptualisation was catalysed by Spiluttini's discovering his mother's preparations both for her own death and for his. He arrived at her home in 2015 to be led into the local church and shown the two adjacent places she had reserved for their urns. The tracks on 'Heaven' together consist of an analogously personal and anticipatory negotiation with death.

OST "Metal Gear Solid" by v/a LP (Mondo)
Premiere vinyl pressing of the soundtrack to Konami's 1998 espionage masterpiece: 'Metal Gear Solid'. The idea of the cinematic game may seem common today, but it was nascent in the 90's - and when Hideo Kojima and his team developed Snake's first three dimensional mission they took full advantage of the medium, crafting a soundtrack as epic in scope as the story itself. It's truly one of a kind, while fitting perfectly side-by-side with other legendary Playstation titles of the era like 'Final Fantasy 7' and 'Silent Hill' in their scope and genre blending influences.
