Kingwood Community Center to Host Two Upcoming Meetings
 
Houston, TX -  Houston City Council Member Dave Martin would like to make Kingwood and Lake Houston area residents aware of two separate meetings to be held next week at the Ki ngwood Community Center, 4102 Rustic Woods, Kingwood, TX 77345. 

On Tuesday, October 15, at 6:30 p.m., the City of Houston will be hosting a community meeting regarding possible mitigation grant assistance for repetitive flood-damaged properties. Properties may qualify for Federal Emergency Management Assistance (FEMA) funding for structure elevation, and this meeting is an opportunity for home owners to speak with the City of Houston regarding their options. To be eligible, property owners must be an National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policy holder and the structure must reside in the City of Houston limits. On Thursday, October 17, at 6:30 p.m., the community is invited to attend Council Member Martin's annual fall town hall meeting, and hear from city and community representatives about ongoing projects, issues and community news related to the Kingwood and Lake Houston ar eas of District E. This meeting is expected to be over capacity. Please be aware, Council Member Martin has arranged for this meeting to be live streamed on his Facebook page and additional onsite overflow space has been secured. 

Mayor Sylvester Turner will be in attendance.  Stephen Costello, City of Houston Chief Recovery Officer, will provide updates on the progress of projects like dredging and the Lake Houston Spillway Dam Improvement Project (Flood Gates). Houston Public Works and the Coastal Water Authority have been invited to speak on the Lake  Houston  Dam Maintenance Project currently underway, which currently requires the level of Lake Houston to be kept one foot below normal pool elevation through November 2020.

Stan Sarman, the Chair of the TIRZ 10 board, will provide information on the Northpark Drive Mobility Improvement Project. Chuck Gilman, San Jacinto River Authority Director of Flood Management, will provide an update on the regional watershed study that is being completed with Montgomery County, Harris County Flood Control District and the City of Houston. Additionally, Chip Place will be speaking on the Houston Parks Board Bayou Greenways 2020 project along the San Jacinto River. Finally, the Texas Department of Transportation has been included on the agenda to provide an update on the Loop 494 expansion project. 
 
For those that arrive to the October 17 Kingwood town hall meeting early, there will be information tables available starting at 6:00 p.m. from Lovett Commercial (Kingwood Docks), Houston Public Works, Houston Police Department Kingwood Division , the Houston Permitting Center to assist residents with questions related to storm damage repairs and rebuilding. The tables will be on site with information available to residents before and after the town hall meeting.
