CHURCH WORLD SERVICE - CROP
Church World Service was born in 1946, in the aftermath of World War II. Seventeen denominations came together to form an agency "to do in partnership what none of us could hope to do as well alone." The mission: Feed the hungry, clothe the naked, heal the sick, comfort the aged, shelter the homeless. More than 70 years later the mission remains, though where and how we accomplish it has changed dramatically.
When CROP began in 1947 (under the wing of Church World Service), CROP was an acronym for the Christian Rural Overseas Program. Its primary mission was to help Midwest farm families to share their grain with hungry neighbors in post-World War II Europe and Asia.
Today, we've outgrown the acronym, but we retain it as the historic name of the program. CROP Hunger Walks are interfaith hunger education and fundraising events sponsored by Church World Service.

In preparation for St. John's Annual Holiday Bazaar, we would LOVE your help.
Cooking, baking will commence Monday, Nov. 4

at 8:30 am. Please bring pre-mixed batter so we can start baking right away. If you can't stay and bake, drop off your batter (with directions) Sunday to Monday and we will bake and package it. If you prefer to bake at home, please drop off your cookies and treats by Friday, Nov 8

. Craft items are always welcome too.
And don't forget Grandma's Attic. Declutter for the holidays. Items can be dropped off during the week of October 28 - Nov 3. Set up and pricing is time-consuming and we'll begin Monday Nov 4
th

Power Packs Project
Volunteers needed for Power Packs: The Jonestown Council of Churches supports this program at Jonestown Elementary, which is an initiative to 1) provide weekend food for children who receive free/reduced price lunches during the week and 2) to teach families how to cook healthy, frugal meals.
Each week, we need two volunteers to serve at the school from 2:45-4 PM. Volunteers help with sorting the bags, and distributing to families when they arrive.
Volunteers can expect to serve once every four to six weeks, during the school year (program is canceled on snow days!)
