Wilkinson Calls on Government to Listen to Communities
Andrew Wilkinson, Leader of the Official Opposition, charged the NDP government of a failure to listen to the views of all citizens and local governments in an address to UBCM delegates. Read more

Modernizing the Emergency Program Act
A new Emergency Program Act is coming for BC, a major initiative that will repeal and replace the current act, UBCM delegates heard at a Thursday morning clinic. Many challenges with the current legislation were revealed through local government experiences of the unprecedented 2017 and 2018 flood and wildfire seasons. Read more

Convention Finance & Sponsorship Survey
Delegates were surveyed yesterday on seven questions related to the financing of the UBCM annual convention. The survey results provide guidance to the Convention Finance & Sponsorship Review Panel as it considers updates to UBCM policies. The Review Panel will provide a report to UBCM's Executive in time for the implementation of approved recommendations at the 2020 Convention. Read more

Rebates for EV Charging Stations
A new rebate program will support B.C. residents looking to buy and install electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at home and at work. The $4 million program will be administered through CleanBC. Michelle Mungall, Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources and George Heyman, Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy announced the new program at UBCM's Convention today. Local Government Leadership in Wood Design
Leadership in structural and architectural wood use by local governments was recognized yesterday as Wood WORKS! BC announced the winners of the 2019 Community Recognition Awards. The province-wide awards are presented annually to local governments that have been exemplary advocates for wood. This is demonstrated through the specification of wood in a community project or through visionary initiatives that work toward building a community culture of wood. Read more

Climate & Energy Action Awards
The Honourable Michelle Mungall, Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources presented the Climate & Energy Action Awards recognizing the climate leadership of BC local governments at the UBCM Convention. Read more
