October 2019 Prayers
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old is gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17
Week 1: October 1-8
Pray for people affected by Hurricane Dorian. Prayers of thanks for Samaritan's Purse Emergency Field Hospital and medical team deployed to the Bahamas.

We join Friends of Shirati in prayer for a change of heart as the U.S. government considers reducing funding for the PEPFAR program. At the Shirati Hospital in Tanzania, more than 8,000 people, including 200 children, receive antiviral drugs, and are at serious risk without medication.
Week 2: October 9-16
Prayers of thanks for encouraging and inspiring dialogue on how the Church can answer our calling to heal, and what it means to address health holistically. Praise for health practitioners sharing their experiences in the CCIH September webinar on Healing and the Church. Watch the recording
 
Global Handwashing Day is October 15. Clean water is essential in a healthcare facility. Pray for the work of water advocates and Global Water 2020, an advocacy effort to increase water access and security for all people in developing countries.
Week 3: October 17-24
Prayers of thanks for awareness of the power of faith leaders to influence healthy behaviors. Praise that the Global Health: Science and Practice Journal included the work of the Christian Health Association of Kenya to engage religious leaders in health. Religious leaders reached 700,000 people with family planning messages and referred 87,000 clients to health facilities. See the article

Pray for the Christian Hospitals Association of Pakistan and its plans to establish a health care facility for people struggling with alcoholism and drug addiction, and other patients with mental health problems.  
Week 4: October 25-31
Prayers of thanks for voices of faith in the public sphere. Praise for Reverend Jamlick Murimi of the Anglican Church of Kenya and his weekly radio show Saturday mornings on WERU radio discussing the church, health, and other issues.

Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia and other East African countries face extreme hunger. Pray for efforts to increase resiliency of food systems in these countries, including the Food and Nutrition Security Resilience Programme by the Food and Agriculture Organization, supported by the Netherlands.
