Principal's Message
March 10, 2017
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP,
Last Saturday, 64 students from Our Lady Queen of Peace competed in 117 events at the Private Schools Interscholastic Association District Meet. The competition is the culmination of many hours of practice and effort on the part of students and coaches. This enrichment program is supported by the school as a means to help students achieve their personal best in academic areas of interest to them. To make it to the district meet, students compete against their classmates on assessments prior to the PSIA qualifying deadline. The OLQP Academic Team was heralded with a cheer in the same manner as OLQP athletic teams. Students, parents, and staff traveled to Richmond where the host school is located. We gathered in the gymnasium where the excitement was palpable. Throughout the day, announcements would be made calling out the names of those who placed in the different events. All day, we heard over and over again, "...and from Our Lady Queen of Peace..." It was a great day! All students who placed in first or second will travel in May to Texas Christian University to compete at the state level.
As we continue to journey through Lent, students are praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet and the Stations of the Cross in morning prayer. These beautiful prayers help us focus on the Passion of Our Lord and strengthen us on our journey. Today, the students were reminded that two great feast days occur while we are on Spring Break: the Feast of St. Patrick of Ireland, on March 17, and the Feast of St. Joseph, March 19. As you enjoy your Spring Break and keep your Lenten practices, pause to thank God for the lives of these wonderful saints to whom we are encouraged to ask for assistance on our way. Have a safe and happy vacation! Thank you for being part of the mission and ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.

  Richwood Police Department
Did You Know?

Partnership with Richwood PD
Don't be surprised if you see a patrol car parked on campus. Our Lady Queen of Peace benefits from a close relationship with Richwood Police Department. Officers from Richwood facilitate the R.A.P.(Richwood Avoidance Program). They often confer with administration on plans for crisis management. Additionally, their advice is sought during extreme weather events in order to get more localized information as needed. We are grateful for their care of the school community.

The IOWA / COGAT
Testing is coming to OLQP after spring break. The last week in March begins a two week period of testing. Both a cognitive abilities test and a nationally normed, standardized test are given. Families are encouraged to ensure that students stay on a healthy routine in order to help them do their best. The philosophy of testing in our Catholic schools is completely different from that of our friends in public schools. We do NOT teach the test. Our focus is on the curriculum and individual student achievement and growth. At OLQP, test results inform instruction both at the campus level and for individual students.
News You Can Use....
