From the President's Desk
Mr. Ken Rasp

For Catholic Schools Week, I decided that it would be important for me as the "new" President at Muskegon Catholic Central to deliver a message to each parish in our region. I am happy to report that I was able to speak at St. Michael, St. Francis, St. Mary of the Woods, Prince of Peace, Sacred Heart, St. Thomas, Our Lady of Grace and St. Mary. I very much enjoyed the opportunity to share a message about our commitment to enhancing and building upon the tradition of excellence that has provided students for over 150 years a quality, Catholic learning experience. Even more importantly, the message seemed well received each time it was delivered.

I thought that you might like to read the message that I delivered.   Read more here !

March for Life
Thursday, January 26th at 4:30am, 18 MCC students and 3 chaperones boarded a bus to headed to Washington D.C. to take part in the Annual March for Life.
Shroud of Turin
MCC was blessed to have this life-size replica of the Shroud of Turin on display during Catholic Schools Week (Monday, January 30 to Friday, February 3) in the Mullally Memorial Founders Chapel. The Shroud of Turin is a centuries old linen cloth that bears the image of a crucified man. Many believe it to be the cloth that wrapped the crucified body of Jesus of Nazareth. A presentation by the artist was provided to our middle and high school students.

Math Counts
Friday, February 10, 2017 was a great day for our Math Counts competition at Muskegon Community College. There were 72 students that competed from nine different schools. This was our second year of competing. We brought 10 students to the competition. There were 5 seventh and 5 eighth graders. They were chosen based on the top 5 in each class on MAP scores from the Fall.
After three rounds they picked the top 8 students to compete in the countdown round. Alaina Kohley (8th grade) was in the top eight therefore she competed in this round. She did GREAT and took second in the countdown round. She also placed 5th overall. Navarre Klint (8th grade) placed 15th overall. 3 seventh graders, AJ Asmus, Elliot Riegler and Dane Rutz placed 33rd, 35th and 38th respectively. These five people were in the top half of the competitors. A good time was had by all. We finished the day with lunch at the Station Grill.
I would like to thank the Rosemary Lambert Foundation for the funds to have t-shirts made, Mr. Asmus for making them, and the Muskegon Catholic Family Association for paying our registration fee for all ten students. I would also like to thank Mrs. Debra Charron '72 for her help coaching. Looking forward to next year. -Sheila Salisz '77
