"Christ on the Move in the Middle East Today and among Muslims Worldwide"

The events of September 11, 2001 rocked the Muslim world as much as it did the Christian or Western world. In recent years, Muslims have become either more radical, moderate or have chosen to leave Islam and practice another religion or no religion at all. The Arab Spring is just one example of Muslims and Arabs crying for more freedom and independence. Currently, there is unprecedented growth of the Church in Egypt and Iran. For the past 19 years, Dan McNerney has led church groups to the Middle East, supporting indigenous Christian communities in many of the Arab and Farsi speaking countries. He has also become actively involved in creating peaceful, bridge-building relationships between churches and mosques throughout the Chicago area and elsewhere in our country.

Join fellow parishioners on Thur., Oct. 10 for supper at 5:30PM in the McClain Room followed by Dan's talk from 6:15-7:15PM. Complementary nursery care is provided.
Christ Church Hosts Families
from Family Promise October 13-20

Christ Church is getting ready to host a new group of transitionally homeless families in Church House the week of October 13-20, and we need lots of help!

This has become one of Christ Church's most important outreach ministries. By providing these families a safe place to sleep, healthy meals, hospitality and fellowship, we play a critical role while they work with Family Promise to create a pathway to permanent self-sufficiency and stability.

We need volunteers of all ages to help with:
  • Setup and Cleanup
  • Evening Meals
  • Evening Activities
  • Overnight Hosting
  • Fellowship and Hospitality
To volunteer, visit the  Christ Church website , where you'll find the  Signup Genius  under Serve/Local Outreach or click HERE.

If you have questions, please email Elizabeth Parkinson at  [email protected]

Bishop Joseph will also tell us about an exciting new partnership with Five Talents, which has developed programs in Renk that focus on literacy, economic empowerment, and trauma healing for women and youth affected by war, all critical elements to a lasting peace.

6:00PM - Gather at the Rectory, 428 Maple Street
6:20PM - Prayer
6:30PM - Dinner featuring cuisine from South Sudan
7:15PM - Presentation by Bishop Joseph with time for questions

Please RSVP to Lisa Kerpan at [email protected] by October 11.  Thank you!
Welcoming New Members! Sunday, November 3

Are you new or new-ish at Christ Church? Then we invite you to participate on All Saints Sunday, Nov. 3, in a special, brief Liturgy of Belonging to be held at both the 8:00 and 9:30 services, after the announcements. Following the 9:30 service there will be special coffee hour welcoming new members.

The Liturgy of Belonging offers an affirmation of membership in Christ Church. Two additional opportunities follow later this year: Inquirers Class in March-April, and the Confirmation service on May 5, during which those who wish to do so may be confirmed or received into the Episcopal church by the Bishop.

If you would like to participate in the Nov. 3 Liturgy of Belonging please RSVP to Nadia or Melissa. We look forward to your participation!
This Fall Marks the 95th Anniversary of Rummage at Christ Church

The faces we know ... and those we don't

On Rummage Sale morning you are as likely to encounter a neighbor working the sale or slipping in to find a bargain as you are to a single mother waiting in line to outfit her young children in clothes for the year.

Or maybe there's the young couple looking to score furniture cheap enough to outfit their new home. Perhaps there's one in a busload of seniors, on a fixed income, shopping for a new set of dishes or Christmas presents for their grandkids.

Maybe even a young seminarian...

Opportunities to Serve
A Just Harvest - Saturday, September 28
We Need Cooks, Servers, & Shoppers

DID YOU KNOW that our Parish serves approximately 150-175 hungry patrons each month at A Just Harvest Community Kitchen in Rogers Park.  We'd love to have you join this ongoing ministry.

Questions? Contact Jenny Smith or Suzie Peregrine for more information and/or to volunteer.

Most volunteers leave the kitchen with the sense that they have personally gained more than they have given. Come see for yourself.

Hurricane Relief

Episcopal Relief & Development is working with Church partners to provide critical support to the most vulnerable communities impacted by Hurricane Dorian.

In partnership with the Episcopal Diocese of Central Florida, the Episcopal Church in South Carolina, the Episcopal Diocese of Georgia, and the Episcopal Farmworker Ministry, Episcopal Relief & Development is giving assistances such as food, water, clothing, shelter and other emergency supplies to individuals and families affected by the storm. The organization is also working through the Anglican Alliance to provide support to the Anglican Diocese of the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos as they continue to assess the needs of communities.

You can help provide affected communities with immediate and long-term support. Please contribute to Episcopal Relief & Development's Hurricane Relief Fund at support.episcopalrelief.org/hurricane-relief.
