Bay Day Success!
Everything about Bay Day 2019 was a success! The weather was beautiful, our enthusiastic exhibitors brought impactful activities, and our attendees left happy, full of knowledge, and with an item to make their backyards a bit more bay-friendly. We are indebted to our partners at the Ocean Pines Association, our dozens of selfless volunteers, and the over 1,500 people who attended. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your passion to learn, and your drive to make our Coastal Bays a healthy place to live and visit. We look forward to the event in 2020!
Coastal Clean Up
This year MCBP, Ocean City Surf Club, and the Town of Ocean City hosted two Ocean Conservancy clean ups! The first was scheduled for Saturday, September 7th. As hurricane Dorian's projected pathway looked as if it was going to have an impact on OC, team leaders decided to reschedule for September 21st. Dorian's path thankfully missed OC and since the day was beautiful, organizers figured they better be ready for the 7th and the 21st.

A total of 141 volunteers participated in the clean ups and results are still coming in for the total number of pounds of trash picked up.
2018 Report Card Now Available!
This year's Report Card is a little different from past years and earns a a grade of  "Incomplete". Due to issues collecting the data, both seagrass and hard clam data is missing from this Report Card. Water quality in all segments declined except in Sinepuxent and Newport Bays. Water quality decreased in all four parameters in the St. Martin River, Isle of Wight Bay, Assawoman Bay, and Chincoteague Bay. Meanwhile, Newport Bay saw slight improvement in nutrients and algae, and Sinepuxent Bay saw improvement in total phosphorus levels. Click on the Report Card to find out what specific issues and improvements are going on in the Coastal Bays!
Cigarette Butt Recycling Update!
MCBP has shipped out a total of 259,650 cigarette butts to date to be recycled! We are receiving more huts for next year to be distributed to Ocean City and West Ocean City businesses willing to make the pledge!
Bat Box Bash
Get spooky with Maryland Coastal Bays!

We were so excited to see how many people were interested in taking home a bat roost at Bay Day! We want to continue with the momentum from Bay Day and offer a workshop on Tuesday, October 29th  from 5:00 - 7:00 pm for anyone still interested in building and taking home a bat roost. During the workshop you will have the opportunity to build your own bat roost, hear an educational talk on bats, enjoy refreshments, and take home your freshly built bat home! Come as an individual or bring your whole family to join in the festivities!

The workshop does require an $80 registration fee for materials. In order to have as many bat roosts installed by winter and because of the quick turn around from Bay Day, this fee is required. Maryland Coastal Bays Program is aiming to offer a FREE workshop series this spring promoting bay friendly backyards! For more information or to RSVP contact [email protected] or call 410-213-2297 ext. 107.

*Bat Roosts need to be installed 10 feet above the ground and in an area with 6-8 hours of direct sunlight. Additional materials may be required for installation.*
