Camp Kudzu E-News: March 2017 Edition
Tips and Tricks to Plan Your Vacation with
Journey and Destination in Mind!

Balancing that great feeling of freedom during Spring Break and other days off school with taking diabetes on the road can be a challenge. Whether you're planning to cross the pond, hit the ski slopes, relax on the beach, or visit family out of town, the tips and tricks  we've compiled can help you better plan for your trip. Similar to life experiences, the journey is just as important as the destination - so plan for both!

Sending Camp Kudzu Staff on a Learning Adventure

Camp Kudzu's staff joined leaders from thousands of camps in Albuquerque at the American Camp Association National Conference and Diabetes Camping Conference.  Sessions about building children's emotional resilience, promoting inclusiveness, and how to manage the closed loop insulin delivery system taught us a lot.  We also benefited from time to talk with peers and learn from what they do.

We can share resources that we liked with you!  If you are a volunteer, please check out what the American Camp Association offers year round.  Take advantage of a free one-year membership!  http://www.acacamps.org/membership/free-one-year-membership

Spring Family Camp, April 21-23

A few spaces remain for at Spring Family Camp on April 21-23 at Camp Twin Lakes. Family Camp is a great way for the whole family to learn more about diabetes management and receive support from other T1D families and experienced medical professionals.

New this session:  cooking activities led by a registered dietitian who will prepare and discuss healthy and exciting options that the whole family will enjoy. Our Endocrinologist will be on-site to give an update on technology advances in the field of type 1 diabetes. To top it all off, "Puppet Dude" will be there working with small groups to put on a show Saturday night!

13th Annual Kudzu Cup Fore! Kids

If you're planning to get out your plaid pants and dust off your irons to play in the Kudzu Cup Fore! Kids (Monday May 22, 2017 at the Country Club of the South),  you should hurry. There are only a few spots left. If you wait, you'll miss out on a great day golf,  and friendly competition. Players will have a chance at premium takeaways, prizes and a Hole-In-One competition. You don't want to miss this one!

On a serious note, the tournament provides up to 40 full scholarships for campers who would have otherwise not been able to attend camp. One day of golf for you could easily be the start of a life changing event for a child living with type 1 diabetes.

Special thanks to our event sponsors including GYM GUYZ, Wellstar, and Resurgens! Reach out if you would like to know more about becoming a sponsor for this important event.  Here you will find all the information you need to determine how you would like to participate.
