A Note from the Head of Finance & Business ...
Dear Crossroads Parents,

We know how important our successful, individualized instructional process is to children who struggle with learning differences. Our goal at Crossroads is to reach as many students as possible and to have a positive, long-lasting impact on each of our families. We also understand that the substantial financial cost of this individualized instruction is often a road block on the journey to educational success. We are continuously looking for options and strategies to lessen this financial burden on our families and keep the focus on what is important, our students.

I’m excited to present another option to our families where financing the cost of school tuition is concerned. In addition to our offerings of financial aid and providing the option of various payment schedules, Crossroads is proud to partner with Your Tuition Solution as an option. Your Tuition Solution offers convenient financing for your child’s education through long-term plans with budget-friendly payments.

Your Tuition Solution offers:
  • Payment plans with flexible terms
  • Budget-friendly choices
  • Financing of amounts up to $50,000
  • Pre-qualification
  • No impact to your credit score until you choose a plan and move forward

You can find more information about Your Tuition Solution at:
Phone: (800) 920-9777

You can also pick up a brochure with more information from the school or have an electronic brochure emailed to you upon request. Our goal is to help our students and families using the most comprehensive and global approach possible so please, don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you have. We are here to help!

As Seen on Campus...

Ms. Ayesha’s middle school math class played Kahoot, which is a game-based learning platform. It is an example of an educational technology that provides another mode of learning for our students which takes the fear and stress out of multiple-choice quizzes by assessing student learning in a fun way. The students used their laptops to answer the questions and their results are displayed on the big screen. In this class, the Kahoot game reviewed two lessons covering estimating/rounding numbers and dividing whole numbers. Students could use a calculator for their answers and had anywhere from 30 seconds to two minutes to answer a problem.
Houston Texans Kick-Off Day
On September 9th, 2019, Crossroads students and staff participated in our first Houston Texans Spirit Day! Students played flag football while on recess and engaged in multiple educational activities that incorporated football in some shape or form during the school day. Go Texans!
In IPC, the high school students continued their study of force and motion by determining how distance and speed are affected by friction. We determined how friction changed how far and fast a football can be rolled on different surfaces such as a table, floor, and carpet.
Ms. Gemma will be returning at the end of October to begin offering her highly popular Cooking After School Enrichment class. We are offering Cooking on both Tuesday or Wednesday. Each class requires a minimum of three participants.

To sign your student up for the Cooking enrichment, please e-mail Ms. Julianne at your earliest convenience and include which day, either Tuesday or Wednesday, you would like your student to attend. (Note - students may enroll in both days but the topic/recipes will be the same.)
Crossroads Bikes to the Beach

On September 28th, Crossroads School, Inc. will have a team of students and teachers participate in "Bike to the Beach" ( https://biketothebeach.org/ ).  This charity bike ride supports those with disabilities and individuals on the autism spectrum by promoting awareness and raising funds. Each team member is raising money for the cause and we are looking for volunteers to support riders at the final rest stops and the finish line with refreshments.

In turn, the "Bike to the Beach" organization will be giving Crossroads a grant of $1,000 to support our student's recreational activities. While the full ride is from downtown Houston to Galveston Island, we will have students and teachers riding all distances, from 1 to 106 miles that day and are looking to grow our team as well.

If anyone would like to join Team Crossroads, or would like to support us by volunteering, please contact Ms. Azmae Bhatti .
This is probably the first time you are reading about the Positivity Project but it will certainly not be the last. In fact, each week in our newsletter, you will see an update on the project and learn about one of the 24 character strengths that are at the core of our new Social Development Curriculum.

Crossroads School just received both a scholarship from The Positivity Project and a grant to help fully fund the implementation of this curriculum at our school. There are a myriad of resources for teachers and students available to us. This program is used in over 30 states and more than 600 schools around the country. Ms. Ayesha Baig, our Head of Social Development will be responsible to oversee its implementation both in the social arts classes and programs and by teachers in the classrooms. It will be woven into curriculum subjects and into the fabric of our language on campus.

For more information, you can check out the Positivity Project Website.
