Celebrate a Scott County Library Milestone

The Scott County Library was created on January 1, 1969, bringing together libraries that were already established in Belle Plaine, Jordan, New Prague and Shakopee and adding new libraries that year in Savage and Prior Lake. Over the next fifty years, new library buildings would be built and remodeled to meet the changing needs of the community. Even more changes came in what could be found at the library, with the library adding computers for the public, eBooks and eAudiobooks, DVDs, meeting rooms, programs for all ages, early literacy classes for children, online resources that can be accessed from home and much more.

Visit your local branch to learn more about the history of the library and to join in the 50th Anniversary celebration. Each library branch will host an Open House, featuring historic photos, a special event and light refreshments.

Club Book Presents:

Club Book is a unique player on the Minnesota literary events scene. They collaborate with all eight library systems in the seven-county metro region to pair bestselling and award-winning authors with audiences in all corners of the Twin Cities area. Whether you live in Maplewood or Minnetonka, and whether you are interested in mysteries, memoirs, or a mix of everything, Club Book has something for you!

National Book Award finalist Brandon Hobson is the author of four novels, including the critically acclaimed coming-of-age story Where the Dead Sit Talking. Hobson's layered coming-of-age story focuses around a Cherokee boy named Sequoyah. After a tumultuous childhood marked by abuse and neglect, sensitive Sequoyah is thrown into the foster system. While living with the eccentric Troutt family in Oklahoma, he meets and develops feelings for a wayward young artist who shares his Native heritage and checkered family history. Hobson's masterwork is informed by his own experiences as an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. Join us in Prior Lake on Thursday, October 24th at 7:00 p.m. as he discusses his books and the process of writing.
