In the style of  Truman Capote's famous 1966 Black & White Ball the Island Park PTA's Spring Party and Auction is on Friday, March 24th from 6:30-11:00pm at the Mercer Island Community & Events Center. This year's famous party is our largest fundraiser for our Learning Support Fund. Dress up or dress down...just come!

We also need "set up" and "night of" volunteers. It's really a fun group. Be part of the team that puts on this fantastic event! Sign up here.

Island Park PTA Nominations for 2017-2018 School Year

Each spring, the Island Park PTA nominates and elects our Executive Committee and Board Positions for the following school year.

At the April 20th PTA General Meeting, Island Park PTA will be electing & appointing officers for the following positions for the 2017-2018 PTA year:

Executive Committee Positions:
The Office of Co-President Elect (2 positions)
The Office of Co-Treasurer (1 position)

Board Positions:
The Office of Co-VP of Fundraising (1 position)
The Office of Co-VP of Student Services(1 position)
The Office of Co-VP of Communications (2 positions)
The Office of VP of Advocacy(1 Position)

Deadline for nominations is Wednesday, March 22, 2017.  Individuals are welcome to recommend themselves. Please contact Heather Fowler communications@islandparkpta.org with specific questions .   Please put SEALED recommendations in the PTA folder in the main office.
Author Nina Laden visit 
Tuesday, March 14th

Thanks to the generous support of the Mercer Island Schools Foundation and the Island Park PTA, author Nina Laden will be sharing her work with Island Park students. 

Ms Laden is the author and illustrator of many children's books, such as The Night I Followed the Dog and When Pigasso met Mootisse. We are excited to hear about her writing and illustration process.

Girls on the Run Starting Soon
Registration Closes March 1st.

Girls on the Run (GOTR) starts March 7th and we would love to have your daughter join our team! GOTR is an amazing international organization that aims to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. No prior running experience necesary! Practices after school Tues and Thurs 3:45-5:15 and training will culminate in a GOTR community 5k on May 21st!

MIYFS Event Invitation:  A Conversation about Successful Parenting in a High Pressure Culture
Please join Mercer Island Youth and Family Services for a community conversation on how to be a successful parent on Mercer Island. Hear from Island youth and parenting professionals about the issues facing Island youth and how to address them. A particular focus on how to be an effective role model will expand to include tips from teens (and local professionals) to parents on what it takes to be a successful parent in the high-pressure culture on Mercer Island.

Weather-Related Makeup Days Scheduled
Consistent with our 2016-17 School Calendar, the two school weather-related makeup days for this week's closures will be May 26 (a Friday) and June 16 (a Friday). February 16 is not being used because we presently have substitute requests that exceed our ability to staff our classrooms; therefore, we need to use the May and June dates.

Mercer Island High School Students Advance to DECA State Competition
Ninety-three Mercer Island High School students have qualified to compete in the Washington State DECA Career Development Conference March 2 to 4 in Bellevue.

Mercer Island Joins with Regional Education Leaders to Urge Lawmakers to Extend Existing Levy Limits
The Mercer Island School District's Superintendent, Dr. Gary Plano and Board Director and Legislative Representative, Ralph Jorgenson, joined education leaders from throughout the Puget Sound region today to urge legislators to enact a bi-partisan solution to the "levy cliff" issue - which threatens to create a $228 million hole in local school budgets for the coming school year.

YTN's fun and creative Spring Break Camps will inspire your child to be active and imaginative through a variety of activities and games. Our students will concentrate on the body as an instrument, creating art from the inside out. YTN Teaching Artists will explore yoga, movement, vocal work, character building, art and much more with the students to create a unique showcase on the final day.
