Dozens
of family physicians, residents and medical students
took part in the
MAFP
Capitol Day
on Wednesday,
Feb
ruary

When each House convened, MAFP members were recognized and introduced from the floor. MAFP members met for lunch to hear updates on federal and state issues
from Ashley Thompson, MAFP Legislative Consultant and Shelby Mae King, MPA, AAFP Legislative and Policy Strategist.
Later
,
MAFP served desserts and coffee to
over 85
legislators and presented them with a keepsake Mississippi mug. There were also displays and participants on hand from the MS Rural Physician Scholarship Program, the MAFP Foundation, and the Office of Mississippi Physician Workforce.

MAFP Applies for National Grant
Vaccinations 4 Teens: Mississippi Must Improve
Despite recommendations that all teenagers have the HPV, MCV4, Tdap and influenza vaccines, teen vaccination rates in Mississippi are very low. Our state had some of the lowest teen vaccination rates in the nation for 2015: HPV for females (only 24% of teens), HPV for males (21%), MCV4 (55%), influenza (40-50%) and Tdap (74%). But studies show there is a remedy for low vaccination rates: a conversation with their family physician. Parents and teens who are advised by their physician to get vaccinated are twice as likely to do so.
To that end, MAFP has applied for a grant to host a Vaccinations 4 Teens panel discussion this July. If awarded, the event would be open to the membership during the Annual Scientific Assembly. Panelists would be doctors who have expertise in the field and members would be provided with printed resources for patients.

Represent the MAFP at National Meeting
National Conference of Constituency Leaders (NCCL) is a vehicle for member constituencies, recognized as women, minorities, new physicians, international medical graduates, and LGBT physicians, to exchange information, share experiences, and develop basic leadership skills. If you are interested in becoming a chapter delegate, simply email your CV and area of interest to Claire Rome at [email protected].
Chapter delegates are official representatives from each constituency representing each chapter. All active members who meet the definition of the constituency group they will represent are eligible to serve as a chapter delegate. Chapter delegates are eligible to serve on and testify in all reference committees, vote on resolutions in the business session, and vote in the elections.
If you are interested in being more involved in the MAFP and AAFP, being a delegate to the NCCL is the perfect opportunity for you.
