She is the author of eight books with her photographer husband Gary. Six are photographic books chronicling their long distance paddling voyages and two are illustrated instructional paddling guides. Folks all over Northwest Lower Michigan will host dinner parties, inviting their friends to come to a benefit for the Charlevoix Area Humane Society. A number of area restaurants will be also hosting parties with special dinner rates with a portion of the bill to benefit the CAHS.

At 8 p.m. all participants and parties are invited to a grand afterglow at Veterans Park in Boyne City on Lake Charlevoix. The Afterglow will have desserts prepared by the best area restaurants and desserteries in northern Michigan. There, we will tally and celebrate the fundraising results with cocktails and dancing to the live music.

Community Foundation New Accepting Grant Proposals
The Charlevoix County Community Foundation announces the availability of grant dollars to support the work of area nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, and municipalities. The deadline to submit a grant proposal is Tuesday, October 1, 2019 . Grant applications to support arts and culture, education, the environment, community and economic development, health and human services, recreation and youth are available by calling the Community Foundation office.

Charlevoix County Recreation Plan Events
The Charlevoix County Planning Commission and Parks Committee are in the process of updating the Charlevoix County Recreation Plan. opportunities to provide public input to assist county officials in updating the plan. 

Two (2) open houses will be held, one on Monday August 19 th from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Whiting Park and the other on Thursday September 19 th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Charlevoix Public Library. We’ve also developed a community survey concerning the county parks and recreation facilities. The survey will be open until September 13 th .  The flyer and a link to the survey are posted on the Charlevoix County website under Announcements at:  http://www.charlevoixcounty.org

The 31st Annual Charlevoix Little But Might Bridge Walk will be taking place on Labor Day, September 2nd at 1:00pm. This years event will benefit the Charlevoix School Rayder Den! Community Foundation Grants Support Oncology Patients, Nurse Navigator Program at McLaren Northern Michigan
The McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation received grants totaling $28,873 from local Community Foundations for the Oncology Nurse Navigator Program at McLaren Northern Michigan. The grants will support newly diagnosed patients navigate their cancer journey.
 
Oncology Nurse Navigators work with approximately 2,000 newly diagnosed cancer patients from across 22 northern Michigan counties annually. Nurse Navigators ensure seamless and coordinated care among physicians, diagnostic tests, and cancer treatments. Nurse Navigators complete specialized training to work with cancer patients. They offer education, support, and guidance to help patients and families cope and overcome financial, logistical, and social barriers to care. The Oncology Nurse Navigator Program was established in 2013 by donors to the McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation. To learn more, visit HERE .
