Principal's Message
February 24, 2017
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP,
We are blessed with sunshine, and we are taking full advantage of it! The students are enjoying recess and playground time as well as taking P.E. classes outside. From the youngest students to the eldest, classrooms are moving outside as well. Kindergarten enjoyed a butterfly release after observing the metamorphosis of caterpillars into butterflies. The children's wonder and delight as they watched these creatures take flight was precious. Eighth graders participated in the Egg Drop Challenge. In teams, they engineered a container that would protect the raw egg while being dropped from a lift. Members from the Society of Engineers were on hand to explain the rules and verify the results from each drop. Students were given selected materials and ten minutes to construct their containers. The winning team's egg survived a 23 foot drop (which is the limit of the lift!). The second place drop was 21 feet.
Next week, Ash Wednesday ushers in the penitential season of Lent. Please join us at morning prayer on Ash Wednesday and receive ashes. Students are being challenged to develop a plan to help them grow closer to God. They are being asked to put a plan in writing that includes making time for quiet prayer (no "screens"), both doing something for others and giving up something, going on the Lenten journey with a favorite saint by reading about the saint's life and the saint's writings, and receiving the sacrament of Reconciliation. Our Faith provides many tools to help us grow in grace and favor before the Lord. Let us work together to pass those gifts on to the next generation. Thank you for being part of the mission and ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.
Principal
