LORHN hopes to glean the interest from as many rural healthcare providers as possible about joining a LORHN-led consortia to apply for the
the Healthcare Connect Fun Program with the Universal Service Administration Co. (USAC). This program provides eligible rural healthcare providers with a large discount on broadband services.
LORHN, acting in the best interest of our hospitals, providers, and partners plans to increase access to broadband connectivity via the formation and coordination of a consortia. This will enhance and improve rural residents' access to a continuum of affordable health care and champion the efficient and effective delivery of health care services in rural areas.

Families can apply for Florida KidCare all year long! Also, exciting news for families using the full-pay option.
Starting January 1, 2020, members in the full-pay plan will experience enhanced benefits to match the benefits of subsidized members, which will include the elimination of medical and pharmacy deductibles, the elimination of coinsurance and the lowering of all co-pays. Developed by NORC on behalf of the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy (FORHP), the toolkit compiles promising approaches and resources to support rural communities seeking to develop and expand telehealth programs. This toolkit presents practical strategies that can help rural communities identify successful telehealth models; address common implementation challenges; and prepare for long-term sustainability.
In addition to an overview of the toolkit we will feature three speakers that will describe lessons learned related to establishing and sustaining telehealth programs.

Part one of the transportation webinar series will focus on how public health and transportation professionals can work together to support community health and well-being. It will provide an opportunity for mobility management and transportation practitioners to hear from public health professionals on potential areas for collaboration between the two sectors, and discuss ideas for developing, implementing, and evaluating initiatives to improve community health.

Provide the basics of compliance with Emergency Preparedness regulations required for Rural Health Clinics. There will be a 45-minute presentation and 15 minutes for questions. We will go over changes to Appendix Z and recent survey findings related to Emergency Preparedness.

Provides low-interest loans to low-income rural communities for predevelopment costs, system upgrades and new construction of water and wastewater services and facilities. Loans are also available for housing and community facilities, including healthcare facilities.
Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA)
The Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (RCORP) is a multi-year opioid-focused initiative by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) aimed at reducing the morbidity and mortality of substance use disorder (SUD), including opioid use disorder (OUD), in rural communities at the highest risk for SUD.
USDA Rural Development Programs
This program provides affordable funding to develop essential community facilities in rural areas and does not include private, commercial or business undertakings. Eligible borrowers include public bodies, community-based nonprofit corporations and federally recognized tribes. Examples of what funds can be used for include:
- Healthcare facilities such as hospitals, medical clinics, dental clinics, nursing homes or assisted living facilities
- Local food systems such as community gardens, food pantries, community kitchens, food banks, food hubs or greenhouses
- Community support services such as child care centers, community centers, fairgrounds or transitional housing
- Utility services such as telemedicine or distance learning equipment
The USDA rural development home loans are designed to help medium income American's buy a home in rural and suburban communities. Qualifying individuals and families that qualify may have: NO money down, low interest rates, 30-year fixed rates, government guaranteed, flexible credit guidelines, and the ability to roll closing costs into the loan.
Local Funding Opportunities
Almost 70 percent of Glades Electric Cooperative members participate in
Operation Round Up, which helps people in GEC's service area who have
exhausted normal avenues of financial assistance. The fund is for
deserving individuals and organizations. If you know of people who
need and deserve assistance and live within the Glades Electric service
area (Glades, Hendry, Highlands and Okeechobee counties), encourage or
help them to complete an application.

Health Council of Southeast Florida (HCSEF)
HCSEF is now a Florida Certification Board (FCB) Approved Provider for Addiction, Community Health/Health, Mental Health, Peer Services and Prevention. Certified Professionals seeking continuing education credits should contact Nicola Chung.
Cultural and linguistic competency is recognized as an important strategy for improving the quality of care provided to clients from diverse backgrounds. The goal of this e-learning program is to help behavioral health professionals increase their cultural and linguistic competency. (5 credits)
This online course is presented by Cross Country University for health professionals who teach and care for patients with asthma. The content follows the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program (NAEPP) 2007 Expert Panel Report 3: Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma

Lake Okeechobee Rural Health Network, Inc. (LORHN) was formed in 1994 as a non-profit corporation designed to provide for the special and specific health-related needs of the residents, visitors, and businesses in the Lake Okeechobee area; with extended services to Glades, Hendry, Okeechobee, Western Martin, and Western Palm Beach counties.
LORHN
was established through Florida legislation (Statute 381.0406) and is
one of nine local rural health networks covering the state of Florida
.
As per Florida statute, the goal of the networks shall be to ensure that quality health care is available and efficiently delivered to all persons in rural areas
.
Our vision is to
promote/provide for the special and specific health needs of the residents, visitors, and businesses in the Lake Okeechobee area.
