Hello, Holy Family!
This week, I invested two full days in Cedar Falls with a small group of committed members of our community to start a 4-year process of strategic planning. I tell you this for two reasons:
1) So everyone is aware of this intentional process, as there may be roles for some/all of our community to play in the discernment process as well as the communication and implementation process.
2) To let you all know how excited I am to serve and lead this community. I was reminded how special and how blessed our school community is. We have something beautiful and awesome (never perfect) here, and I hope you all feel as thankful for Holy Family as I do!
Also, as we enjoyed celebrating our Walkathon today, (though we have another week to raise funds) we have far surpassed our fundraising goal of $15,000. In fact, we have raised over $20,000 to date! Thank you all so much for sharing Holy Family with your friends, families, colleagues, and neighbors. Wow, this is great! Special thanks to the parent association for putting on such a great fundraiser and event today.
God is so good, and Holy Family is evidence to that fact!
God bless your family and our school all year long!
Zach Zeckser

Holy Family Scrip News
Thanks to all those who have been ordering Scrip so far this year. In the order this week, we are sending home a couple of forms that need to be signed and returned. They will help us know how to deliver your order and how you would like your rebate. These have to be filled out annually. In this video, families share stories about opportunities created by gift card fundraising, how easy it is to do every day, and how fast earnings add up
.
ShopWithScrip.com/FamilyStoriesVideo
. A new feature this year is the option to pay online by credit card. The next order will be Monday, September 30, 2019 by 9AM. If anyone is interested in helping, we could use help on Friday mornings from 10-11ish to sort the orders or to pick up the cards at local businesses on Wednesday. LaSalle Middle School Test Retakes
Starting this fall, all classes/teachers at LaSalle will use the same test retake practice. We believe that what we have established for our students in this approach will help all students to be as successful as possible.
A given test may be retaken one time in any class with any teacher. When a student retakes a test, s/he will be able to recover half of the points missed in the initial test. Students will only be retested on the concepts that were missed on the initial test. Before a test can be retaken, all assigned work pertaining to that test must be turned in to the teacher. Students will have one week to discuss retakes with their teacher and one more week to actually retake the test (totaling two weeks from the time that the initial test is returned). Tests will generally be retaken during an active learner session with the teacher of the same test before or after school based on teacher and family availability. Tests that receive a “U” grade will necessitate a test retake, and all of the guidelines stated here apply.
Thank you for partnering with us to help your children to succeed, especially when it is most difficult, and they need us the most!

FAST TESTING:
The FAST screening window for 5th-8th grade students will continue through October 4th. During this time students will be given screening assessments to help us know which students may need additional support. The students complete screening assessments three times each year. These assessments help teachers see which students are likely to meet the end of year learning goals, and which ones need more help. Please be sure your students get adequate rest and nutrition during the screening window. Please be sure students are drinking water, eating well and getting plenty of sleep!
