A Message from the Principal

Dear 8 th Grade Parents,

I hope your child's 8 th grade year is off to a great start!  The following information should help inform you about what we have planned for your child's final year at Deer Path Middle School.

Throughout the school year, you will receive frequent communication about all Class of 2020 graduation activities through different modes of communication. If you have not signed up for the E-newsletter that comes out every Friday, go to the school's website and you can easily sign up at the bottom right corner of the DPM home page. To be well informed about your child's 8 th grade year, please:

Mark your calendar now with these important dates:

  • Friday, October 11, 9-11:30 a.m - Community Service Day
  • Friday, May 22 , 6:30-9:00 p.m -   8 th Grade Party (½ day for all students)
  • Tuesday, May 26 , 5:00 p.m - 8 th Grade Graduation & Family Reception

Coming up is our  6 th annual 8 th Grade Community Service Day!  All 8 th graders will spend the morning of Friday, October 11th at various local charities.  This day is a very meaningful way for the students to experience volunteerism and allow them the opportunity to give back to their community.  The 8 th grade class goal is to give 2,020 collective hours of their time.  This comes out to 8 hours per student for which they will receive an automatic 2 hours toward these hours when our 8th graders do their service on October 11th as a class.

Please review this checklist to be sure you are up-to-date on all graduation activities tasks:

  • Payment of APT 8th Grade Activity Fee - When you registered your child for 8 th grade, you had the opportunity to pay this $40 fee (per student, if you have multiples).  The additional APT fee is the only source of funds available to cover all graduation-related expenses, including the student-planned Graduation Dance Party with DJ and the family reception following the graduation ceremony.  Please visit the APT website at https://dpmapt.weebly.com/class-of-2020.html to confirm you have paid the fee, or to pay the fee online if you have not already done so.
  • Volunteer for Community Service Day - We need parent volunteers on Friday, October 11th  from 9-11:30. Please contact Graduation Activities co-Chair Emily Savage at emilysav@gmail.com if you are able to volunteer.
  • Photos of your 8 th Grader - Please choose two photos of your student - one current and one from kindergarten and submit a digital copy to beth60045@me.com . Please write your child's name in the subject line. Please contact Graduation Activities co-Chair Tish Houston (see below) if you have any questions.

8 th graders will have many opportunities to participate in the planning and execution of the Graduation Activities which include volunteering on Community Service Day and planning the Graduation Party.  Please encourage your child to get involved in all ways he/she may like.

The Class of 2020 Graduation Activities co-Chairs are looking forward to working with students, administration and parents to support our 8 th graders in making it a fantastic 8 th grade year.  If you have questions or would like to volunteer your time/talents, please feel free to contact any of the committee members.

Sincerely,

Tom Cardamone
Principal
