September 2019
September is National Preparedness Month

National Preparedness Month  is recognized each September to promote family and community disaster and emergency planning now and throughout the year. This year's theme is "Prepared Not Scared".

According to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), 60% of American adults have not practiced for a disaster.  Preparing now makes sense. Here are 6 steps to get you started:

1. Create A Kit of Emergency Supplies.

Download the FEMA  Emergency Supply Kit  list here.

2. Make a Plan For What You Will Do In Case Of An Emergency.

-Develop a Family Communication Plan
-Create A Plan to Shelter-In-Place
-Create A Plan to Get Away

3. Sign Up For Local Text Alerts/Warnings and Download Weather Apps On Your Phone.

4. Be Informed About What Might Happen.

Begin by learning about various threats, such as: natural disasters, terrorist, biological or chemical threats and prepare yourself on how to react in unexpected emergency situations.

5. Get Involved In Preparing Your Community.

The next step is to get involved in preparing your community.  We all have a role to play in keeping our communities safe and strong.

6. Make Sure Adequate Insurance Coverage Is In Place.

After a disaster is not the time to find out you don't have the right insurance coverage in place.  Are your buildings covered?  How about your contents?  Do you need flood insurance? Take the time to review your policies for adequate coverage, limits and exclusions.

If you have questions or concerns regarding your insurance coverage and how you can be better prepared for the unexpected, please contact Hawley & Associates today.

SPECIAL EVENTS LIABILITY

Maybe you are thinking about hosting an annual fundraising event or a charity 5K Fun Run in your community. Each type of event brings it's own risks and exposures and knowing how to minimize these risks is imperative in enjoying your event worry-free.

A Special Events Liability policy can pick up where your General Liability policy falls short.  It can help cover third party claims resulting from personal injury and property damage, as well as attorney fees, court costs and judgments and settlements. Many policies offer liquor liability coverage as well.

Some venues do require Special Event Liability insurance as part of their contract and may also require to be named as an additional insured on your policy.

There is no one-size-fits all policy. Coverage can be custom-designed to the size, activities, and nature or your individual event.

The 17th Annual Rainier to Ruston-Trail Relay race supports the non-profit Foothills Rails to Trails Coalition .
