The North Cedar Neighborhood Association (NCNA) with the support of Black Hawk Green Scene, Cedar Falls Lions, Cedar Falls Eagles Club and the City of Cedar Falls planted 50 trees on September 24. The project is Phase II of the Lone Tree Road Planting Project started in September of 2018. North Cedar Elementary 5th and 6th grade students and staff assisted in the planting project, along with 25-50 adult tree mentors. The purpose of the planting is to TEACH how to properly plant a tree. WHY trees are important to our environment. HOW to maintain a planted tree. BEAUTIFY this stretch of roadway as a BENEFIT to the community.
Hansen Elementary 4th graders learned about the events of September 11, 2001. After learning about the bravery the first responders showed that day, they talked about our local heroes and how fortunate we are to have people who selflessly protect us each day. The kids wrote letters to our local police officers, firefighters and paramedics to thank them for always being willing to help those in need no matter the danger they face. They were fortunate enough to have a few of our local heroes come and speak to them about their jobs.
