It’s a knockout
Two of the men’s summer tournaments have reached their climax with exciting finals. In the 18-hole pairs, Andy Sale and Tony Hedley beat Bob Gadsden and Frank Bird 3&2, while in the 9-hole singles final Shane McGarvey just beat David Norville by 1 in a tense match that finished with both scoring a par on the ninth. The 18-hole final will be contested by Steve Pack and Darren Blackwood or Andy Sale.

We all know an easy competition is ‘a walk in the park’, but next month you can enjoy a walk in the dark.
Night golf returns to Bradfield on Sunday October 27, with the course illuminated by glowsticks. This was a great success last year and, like last year, the competition will be followed by a fish and chip supper (veggie options available) catered by Off the Scale. You will need to bring your beverage of choice. It is, of course open to all members and a sign-up sheet will be in the clubhouse later this month. Guests are welcome to come for supper.
Texas Scramble Series
Congratulations to Harry Pratt, winner of the men’s season-long Texas Scramble series.
The new competition began last winter, with teams drawn at random once a month from January to September. Each team member counted his best five scores over the nine-match series.
Nothing was decided until the final day, when Harry finished just one point clear.
Commiserations to Darren Blackwood, who would have given Harry a serious run for his money but at the last minute was unable to play in the final round and finished one point behind him, 293-294.
Terry Ronan Memorial Shield
On Saturday October 19, members are invited to play for the Terry Ronan Memorial Shield, a team event to remember the Bradfield College teacher and one of the golf club’s original stalwarts.
The winners will receive the trophy from Terry’s widow, Mrs Sheena Ronan.
The competition will be followed by a ploughman's lunch and you can purchase your drinks on the day from a limited selection of beverages.
This is a mixed event and a sign-up sheet will be posted in the clubhouse soon.

Terry was a member of the golf club from its inception, a cheerful character who loved golf and all the different formats in the game that could be played, from strings to stablefords. One evening he suffered a dizzy spell and the news was the worst. He was diagnosed with a brain tumour but he battled through the treatment and continued to play whenever he could find the energy. Sadly he lost his battle and we all lost a kind and thoughtful friend. The Terry Ronan Memorial Shield is our way of remembering him. It is a fun competition, to be played in bright golf attire with all proceeds going towards brain tumour research.
