The 16 th Sunday after Pentecost
Jesus said…
Uh oh. [here we go again]
How do we cross the chasm that exists between what we think we know to be truth and what is truth?

This may be a sticky subject, especially if any of you follow the debate among folks about truth and where it resides.

The Gospel has Jesus telling us the story of Lazarus, the beggar, Abraham and the rich man. Here is yet another way to see the call of Christ and the cost of discipleship, as we learn to live with wealth so that our wealth does not get in the way of kingdom living.

Beloved, we know all too well that there is a divide between those who have and those who have not, in terms of the earthly possessions, in terms of riches and wealth, in terms of access to goods and resources. We have read and heard and contemplated about our stuff and the call to let go of earthly treasure for the sake of the Gospel. In the story I hear this truth and can see there is less that comes between the poor and God. So, yet another chance to examine what we have and what we ought to do with it.

Also, are you wondering about truth? I am. The rich man thought he knew it. And I’m pretty sure because of his life circumstance, Lazarus thought he was far from the truth.
Both were wrong.
Uh oh.
