Chairperson's Message

It is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Diana Morris as General Manger of the Dufferin Board of Trade effective July 31st, 2016. Diana joined the DBOT team in early 2015 and since Diana's arrival she has demonstrated a keen sense of operational priority and dedication ensuring that the DBOT mission and membership are supported.

In addition, I would like to thank everyone who took the time to nominate an outstanding business in our community for the 2016 Dufferin Business Excellence Awards. We received many nominations recognizing the exceptional businesses, organizations, and individuals in our region. The 2016 BEA Gala will take place the evening of October 27th 2016, and we hope you will join us for the premier business networking event of the year.

As well, registration for the 1st Annual Dufferin Board of Trade Golf Tournament is well underway. Be sure to reserve your chance to claim the title of golf supremacy in Dufferin County and take home the hardware!

Supporting our New Neighbours
Late last year, the federal government announced that they would be welcoming 25,000 Syrian refugees to Canada. These refugees have come in a mix of government and privately sponsored refugees.

The Canadian Chamber of Commerce wants to capture the level of involvement that businesses have had in the initial integration and support of newly-arrived Syrian Refugees.  

So that the Dufferin Board of Trade might gather some of this data, we would ask that you fill out this five to ten minute survey, and show how your company has helped in the effort.

The nominees for the 2016 Business Excellence Awards are set to be announced within the week of August 15th 2016. The Dufferin Board of Trade received many nominations recognizing the outstanding businesses, individuals, and organizations within our community. Dufferin County ON, August 11th, 2016: It is with great pleasure that the Dufferin Board of Trade (DBOT) announce the appointment of Diana Morris as General Manger effective July 31st, 2016.

As the DBOT evolves through the implementation of its new strategic plan, Diana has embraced additional responsibilities effortlessly through spearheading positive operational changes. Some of these include the effective streamlining and hiring of new staff, the evolvement of the DBOT website to connecting the organization with key provincial organizations including the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC).

The DBOT executive team and the DBOT Board are elated and confident of Diana's abilities and look forward to working with her in this capacity.
The Dufferin Board of Trade is dedicated to being the voice of business in Dufferin County. As the largest organization representing businesses in the region, the Dufferin Board of Trade team with Diana's leadership works to ensure that Dufferin County remains the best place to do business.

In this edition of  5   Minutes  for Business, Hendrik Brakel, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce Senior Director, Economic, Financial and Tax Policy, looks at the "low-growth" economic trap that spans across the globe. The brief looks at the federal government's 29.4 billion dollar deficit and how it has impacted growth in the country.
