Chairperson's Message

As the world's stage acknowledges the arrival of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau,   the statements made in this year's new federal budget will also gain international attention.   Speculation on significant infrastructure investment, to business tax breaks may kick-start the  economy.  It is hoped that direct streams of funding will be at the core of this budget benefiting   our region, not for the short-term but long-term.   On January 20th, 2016 the Board of Directors of the Dufferin Board of Trade (DBOT) developed a new   strategic plan which has been designed to reflect the priorities of our business community.  Through the key issues identified in this process, DBOT over the next 18 months will implement a strong plan of action as a mechanism of support.   Once clarity on the new federal budget is received, advocating on behalf of our membership   and community is our priority. Here's to what is hoped for, positive federal budget news!

Provincial

As the province moves closer to fiscal balance by 2017-18,
the OCC worries that without true service  delivery transformation,
the government will be unable to meet its  deficit elimination target.
