Save the Date:  October 10th PTSO Meeting " The Power of Agency."  Dr. Anthony Rao and Dr. Paul Napper will join us to preview their November 21st presentation on the power of human agency to help manage stress and alleviate anxiety .  Stay tuned for more details in next week's blast.

School Council -- Congratulations to our new Parent Representatives! 

We are thrilled to announce that Ann Marie Gross and Melissa Mack will be our new School Council parent representatives.  You can learn more about Ann Marie and Melissa from the statements of interest ( link) they submitted last week.  We would like to thank them in advance for the two years they will serve on the Council.  (Please note:  As we received two statements for two open positions, we have no need to run an election this year.)

We are excited to announce that we will be using Membership Toolkit for our online Directory starting with the 2019-2020 school year.  The directory is now ready for you to access.  Here are the instructions.

  • September 25th - Senior Parent College Application Process - 6:45 pm to 7:45pm WHS Auditorium.  Here is a list of the colleges visiting WHS this fall (please note that this list is subject to change).   
  • October 1st -- Deadline for registering for AP Examination - New Process.  See 8/26/19 Email Guidance Department sent to WHS families here.  
  • October 2nd - Navigating the College Process with Students with Learning Disabilities, recommended for juniors/seniors and parents

Community News ... 


MOTHERS GROUP MEETING Thursday, September 26, 2019 at 9:45am in room 259 at WHS.   Katie Lynch, WHS Special Education Department, and Maura Renzella, Director of the Wellesley Youth Commission, will facilitate the group.  The meetings offer a forum for parents to discuss issues of mutual interests - school or community related.   All are welcome.  

WORLD OF WELLESLEY:   Traces of The Trade, Film Screening & Discussion with James DeWolf Perry on September 26 from 6:30pm to 9:00pm, Wellesley Free Library, Wakelin Room.   Film and discussion with family member James DeWolf Perry. In the feature documentary,  Traces of the Trade, A Story from the Deep North , filmmaker Katrina Browne discovers that her New England ancestors were the largest slave-trading family in U.S. history. She and nine cousins retrace the Triangle Trade and gain powerful new perspectives on the black/white divide.  Learn more about the film . In partnership with the World of Wellesley and Wellesley Free Library.

WPSAS Welcome Back & Planning Meeting. Two items:  
We are Wellesley people and parents supporting the arts scene in our schools and community.  We invite you to join us as we plan events and strategize grant opportunities.  As a bonus, our meetings are held in the Arts Wing at Wellesley High School, offering an opportunity to tour the studios and see student work on display.  Please join us on  Monday, September 23 rd  from 7:00-8:30 PM at WHS,  Drawing & Painting Studio, Room 342.  

Save the date for the WPSAS Fall Social on Thursday, October 10th from 5:30 to 7:30pm at the Page Waterman Gallery.  Enjoy wine and appetizers and get to know our public school art faculty and members of WPSAS in an inspired setting.    

WELLESLEY FREE LIBRARY Here  is a flyer with information on the fall series of events for teens being hosted at the Wellesley Free Library on Life Ready Basics for Teens.

LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS -- two upcoming events:
Presentation on Ranked Choice Voting:  M ore Voices, More Choices  --   After highlighting the extremely timely topic of election cyber-security last year, the League of Women Voters of Wellesley tackles another important topic in politics today at their opening meeting: Ranked Choice Voting.  We'll be ranking votes on best cookies, so it should be fun.  Speakers will be  Christina Knowles and Mac D'Alessandro from Voter Choice Massachusetts.   Thursday, October 10, 6:30-9 pm,  Wakelin Room, Wellesley Free Library, 530 Washington Street, Wellesley.

Wellesley Meet up:  Facetime with Your  Elected Town Officials --  The League of Women Voters of Wellesley offers residents a chance to meet and ask questions  of elected town officials in an informal setting.   Thursday, October 17, 7 - 9 pm,  Wellesley High School cafeteria.

WELLESLEY EDUCATION FOUNDATION:   Get your T-E-A-M together!  Registration is open for WEF's 30th Annual Spelling Bee. W e're celebrating 30 years of Wellesley's Spelling Bee - an old school community spelling bee which brings the whole town together for an evening of fun and fundraising. Over 50 teams participate in the Bee and represent local businesses, law firms, alumni groups, community organizations, and school PTOs, as well as student teams from Wellesley High School and Wellesley Middle School. On Wednesday, November 13th, 7pm at the Sprague School Gym our community adult spelling contest and fundraising event is back for the 29th time! This high spirited community event is right around the corner! How to catch the buzz:
  • Support the Bee: CLICK HERE to make a donation or sponsor a high school, middle school or community team. Many levels are available for sponsorship from $125 to $2500. The Bee is our biggest fundraiser of the year!  Any amount is appreciated.
  • Bee a Team: CLICK HERE to register a team of three spellers for $500. Who knows whom you may be spelling against that night? Deadline for registering a team is October 18.
