Does how we view and use our own little outdoor space make a difference? YES!
I always wanted to certify my yard as an
official wildlife habitat.
This winter I finally pursued it. I wanted my neighborhood to know that I was passionate about how we use individual yards to bring birds, butterflies and bees to live among us. It wasn't hard. The website is:
You just click through the requirements for certification and send them a donation. They are looking for elements like:
You can provide wildlife and humans with these essentials. Plant the plants that attract butterflies and birds or simply put out some feeders.
Water
I have a small pond, but a bird bath will do.
Cover
I have evergreens, shrubs and perennials in a layered planting, but it could be a bird house or two.
Young
I have trees, bird feeders, and water. The combination makes mine a yard that in the spring, the birds will have a place for young. But sometimes the front porch light is good enough if you have materials for them to create the nest.
So get inspired!
And inspire your neighborhood to be a small oasis for wildlife, that is becoming increasingly more fragile.
If you need some help call the landscape department here at Countryside and we can point you to a combination that you can certify someday!
