A Note from the Principal...
Dear Crossroads Parents,

These first few weeks have been an absolutely spectacular beginning of the school year. Every day the smiles on the faces of our students show how much they are enjoying their learning experience. It has been great to hear about all of the summer vacations and how much the kids missed each other.

With every school year, there are always some housekeeping items and minor adjustments that must be made at the beginning of the year. We did have a few schedule changes and some class rearrangements, however, the students handled it with ease. This too is a "life-skill" learning opportunity. Now that we are getting settled in, students will start receiving homework from their classes on a more consistent basis. I wanted to give some information and guidelines for homework.

First, our goal is that the assignments not cause major frustration or anger at home, but instead be used as a reinforcer for skills already learned in class. Most assignments should be done independently, if possible, and students are encouraged to try their best. We also want them to advocate for themselves. If they are struggling at home, we want them to ask their teacher for help the next day when they return to school. Finally, never hesitate to contact the teachers if you have any questions or concerns.  We are here to partner with you in educating your child.

Finally, I wanted to share some pictures that I took this week on campus. These photos are better than any words I can write. Have a fantastic weekend and here’s to another phenomenal week!!

As Seen on Campus...
On Fridays, Ms. Azmae's ELA (English Language Arts) classes will "fish" for task cards. The high school students used magnetic fishing rods to catch a card and then must explain the author's purpose, predict what would happen next, or summarize a given article. The elementary students fished for idioms, determined what they meant and in what situation they could be used.
Crossroads Bikes to the Beach
On September 28th, Crossroads School, Inc. will have a team of students and teachers participate in "Bike to the Beach" ( https://biketothebeach.org/). This charity bike ride supports those with disabilities and individuals on the autism spectrum by promoting awareness and raising funds. Each team member is raising money for the cause and we are looking for volunteers to support riders at the final rest stops and the finish line with refreshments.

In turn, the "Bike to the Beach" organization will be giving Crossroads a grant of $1,000 to support our student's recreational activities. While the full ride is from downtown Houston to Galveston Island, we will have students and teachers riding all distances, from 1 to 106 miles that day and are looking to grow our team as well.

If anyone would like to join Team Crossroads or would like to support us by volunteering, please contact Ms. Azmae Bhatti.
