Garland Named as Finalist for the 2019 Texas Downtown Association President's Awards Program
Garland's Downtown Dine Around has been selected as a finalist for the 2019 President's Awards Program, sponsored by the Texas Downtown Association.

The Dine Around, coordinated in conjunction with Tucker & Associates Public Relations, reached more than 23,000 people on social media, creating an energy and buzz around the dining experience Downtown. View a video of this year's event.
 
Winners will be announced Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the 2019 Texas Downtown Conference in Georgetown. Learn more.
Celebrate National Night Out Tuesday, Oct. 1 
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. 

Share your celebrations on social media and tag them with #GarlandNeighbors and #MYMGarland. 

In order to participate in this event, City Council will meet Monday, Oct. 7, and Tuesday, Oct. 8.

Save the date for several fun events happening around Garland. Whether you want to help clean up, get crafty or go camping, there's something for everyone!
Tri-City Cleanup
8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5

Keep Garland Beautiful, Keep Dallas Beautiful and Keep Rowlett Beautiful are partnering to host a cleanup of Lake Ray Hubbard as part of the Keep Texas Waterways Clean Program. 
 
Check-in begins at 8 a.m. at the Hella Shrine Pavilion, 2121 Rowlett Road. After a morning of cleaning up the lakeshore, volunteers will enjoy a fun-filled Volunteer Appreciation Picnic. Register now.
Adult Craft Workshop
2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5

Adults can learn how to turn T-shirts into yarn for making coasters, placemats and rugs at the South Garland Branch Library, 4845 Broadway Blvd. Each participant will make a coaster with their yarn.
 
Attendees will need to bring their own T-shirt, though all additional supplies will be provided by the library. Registration is required and limited to 24 participants. Call 972-205-3931 to register.

Garland's Gone Camping
3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, to 8 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 6
 
Grab your tent and sleeping bags for a night under the stars with family and friends at Audubon Park, 342 W. Oates Road.
 
Enjoy a night hike, games, s'mores, a camp fire and a movie. Dinner and breakfast provided!

Safety Fest and Blood Drive Saturday, Oct. 12
Enjoy a variety of free activities with the Garland Fire Department from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Fire Administration and Training Facility, 1500 State Highway 66.
 
Safety Fest will include food trucks, safety demonstrations, a helicopter landing, a bounce slide, face painting, pet adoptions and an appearance by the Garland Police Department. Kids can even try their luck on our firefighter obstacle course! Learn more.

GP&L Conducting Customer Survey
Throughout the month of October, Garland Power & Light will field a customer satisfaction survey through a third-party research company. 

Randomly selected customers will be contacted by phone or invited to participate in the survey online. Survey responses are anonymous.

Voter Registration Deadline
Oct. 7
Monday, Oct. 7, is the final day you may register to vote in the Nov. 5 Constitutional Amendment Election. Learn more at DallasCountyVotes.org.

Census Presentation
Oct. 9
Regional Census Office specialist Cynthia Cruz will be the Garland Association for Hispanic Affairs' featured guest at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9. City and Garland Independent School District officials will also be in attendance at the Garland Women's Activities Building, 713 Austin St.
