NASEO Annual Meeting

The National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO) held its 2019 Annual Meeting in Manhattan Beach, California September 15 - 18.   CTC Global sponsored and participated in the annual meeting that was titled: "Building a Clean Energy Economy for Everyone."

On the afternoon of the 18th, CTC Global sponsored a tour of its composite core production facility in Irvine, California (about 45 minutes from the NASEO meeting facility). Attendees included staff from NASEO as well as from Department of Energy, Energy Efficiency Office (DOE-EE). The DOE-EE contributed funding to the Minnesota Electric Utility Infrastructure (EUI) efficiency policy process.

That policy, implemented earlier in 2019, directs utilities to include energy efficiency criteria in the design stage when T&D infrastructure investment is being considered, if they wish to get credit for efficiency investment under the Minnesota requirements. Other states are considering a similar T&D energy efficiency policy in order to capture reduced T&D system losses, the associated carbon reduction from reduced fossil fuel consumption, and reduced generation capacity requirements.

CTC Global Company Values
A staff memo from our CEO...

Colleagues:

Our company exists for two important reasons. The first is to expand access to electricity - primarily to underserved people all over the planet. Accomplishing this improves literacy rates, enables better health care and removes key constraints to economic growth. And the second reason is to increase the capacity and reliability of power grids, mostly in developed countries. Doing each of these responsibly reduces greenhouse gas emissions and minimizes disturbances of land and people.

We are off to a great start and want to do much, much more of this. And in order to do so, our company's culture needs to reinforce the need for action and responsible follow-through - our culture needs to be built on values that are relied upon to guide decisions and behavior. And these values need to be stated clearly and accepted broadly by each member of our team.

Over the past few weeks, we have revised the company's values to make them clearer and more useful. And we have renewed our commitment to model these values personally and to be accountable for ensuring that our company's actions demonstrate them as well.

Our values are:
  • Integrity: we behave in a trustworthy manner in every situation
  • Safety: we maintain a safe workplace and use safe work practices
  • Quality: we meet our commitments and exceed expectations in everything we do
  • Respect: we treat everyone how we expect to be treated
  • Teamwork: we are in this together and no one wins alone
  • Innovation: we create new and better solutions every day
Why are values important?

For each of us as individuals, values guide our actions and reveal what is important to us. The same is true for CTC - its values communicate what the world can expect from it. They guide how CTC treats its customers, employees, shareholders and suppliers. They define what CTC invests in and how it sells and delivers its products and services. CTC's values shape its character.

Why should CTC have values?

CTC needs values because without them, anything goes. And companies that operate that way do not last.  What happens when we do not live up to these values?  C.S. Lewis wrote "Courage is not one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point." A similar statement can be made about values - they only count when they are tested. No person and no company passes every test - the healthy response is to own and learn from our individual and collective mistakes and to get better, going forward.

How can we improve the company's ability to deliver on these values?

If each of us commits to improving and growing every day and to doing so in a transparent, constructive manner, the company will reflect these efforts and will improve its ability to deliver on these values. You can help by joining us in making this commitment and by being accountable for doing so.
230 kV ACCC
® Line Upgrade Completed in Bangladesh

Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Ltd (PGCB) successfully completed another major ACCC Conductor project in Barisal, Bangladesh.

Earlier this month, PGCB completed their 230 kV double circuit Patuakhali - Payra transmission line upgrade. PGCB selected 564.4 mm^2 Hawk size ACCC Conductor (double bundled) to double the capacity of this 48+ kilometer transmission line. PGCB used over 575 kilometers of ACCC Conductor manufactured by Sterlite Power using CTC Global's patented ACCC Core.

The use of ACCC Conductor allowed PGCB to utilize all of the existing lattice structures (134 total) without the need for modification or replacement. Span lengths ranged from 87 to 527 meters. China National Cable Engineering Corporation provided engineering services, while Hanbaek and Islamic Engineering Mullah Traders provided installation services.

Ningbo Dongfang Machinery provided installation equipment and Dervaux provided ACCC Conductor hardware. Training and field support was provided by CTC Global's Regional Service Manager, Samudi Sampangi and ACCC Master Installers Mr. N. J. Balaji and Mr. Mukesh Kumar Jha.

National Grid Russia (FSK) Installs ACCC Conductor to Serve as Overhead Protective Ground Wire (OPGW)

In an industry first, FSK used the high strength, high capacity and durable attributes of the ACCC Conductor to serve as Overhead Protective Ground Wire on their 500 kV Iriklinskaya - Gazovaya and 220 kV Risaevo - Novotroitskaya transmission lines. The project was completed between August 5th and August 18th in the Orenburg Region near the town of Mednogorsk. FSK selected ACCC Helsinki size conductor to complete the 11.5 kilometer upgrade.

FSK chose ACCC Conductor for use as OPGW as they have developed a way to integrate OPGW into their ice load melting system. This was a pilot project, which could potentially be deployed elsewhere on FSK's grid. FSK was very pleased with the ease in which the ACCC Conductor was installed. Lamifil Russia provided the ACCC Conductor and PLP Belos provided ACCC Hardware.

To successfully melt ice on the FSK transmission lines, they are heated from 100 to 130 degrees C.

State Grid Shandong Electric Power Company Completes New 500 kV ACCC® Transmission Line in China

Representing the 5th 500 kV ACCC Conductor transmission line completed in China thus far, State Grid Shandong completed their newly constructed Laiyang - Kunyu 500 kV transmission line using approximately 650 kilometers of ACCC Conductor provided by CTC Global's authorized manufacturing partner, Jiangsu NARI HUAISHENG Cable Co. Ltd.  All five 500 kV projects in China used ACCC Core that was produced at CTC Global's joint venture manufacturing facility in Huaian, Jiangsu China.  This project used a quad bundle configuration and has been in service for over three months.

CTC Global's Conductor Comparison Program CCP Software is Available Online

CTC Global is pleased to announce that our highly regarded Conductor Comparison Program (CCP) software is now available online, and is accessible at:
LINK  The new web-based version has all the features found in the Excel version, which has been replaced and will no longer be supported. The new version is designed to make it easier to use, and it also has some new features. Having CCP online will make it easier to keep it up-to-date with new wire files and other data, and to add improvements as they are made. Users will always know they have the current version every time they log in. CCP is also compatible with tablets.

All data required for calculations is entered on one page. Representative ACCC® Conductors are automatically selected based on the "base" conductor selected. Some fields are automatically entered based on earlier entries or saved user preferences. For example, latitude is entered from a web app based on the project location, and currency conversion is provided using real-time web app information. The user can edit most input data, including default and automatically selected data. Registered users can save multiple projects, recall them, modify them and save them as new projects or overwrite the existing projects.

CCP comparison output is displayed on a separate page. Frequently changed input used for sensitivity analysis is conveniently provided on that same page to minimize toggling between pages. Registered users can export reports that break out sections of the output to PDF and Excel files.

Registration to use CCP requires only a valid email address and password. Users may also use CCP as a guest however, saving and export features are only available to registered users.

Thank you for using our CCP. We welcome your feedback. For technical support, please contact [email protected]
