Weir Farm Artist-in-Residence Exhibition/Reception: Jay Petrow
Monday, August 26 @6pm

August brings Jay Petrow to the Weir Farm Artist-in-Residence program. Jay began painting in an abstract expressionist style to connect with and express his experience fathering an autistic child. Love, anger, humor, sadness, and loss become an explosive convergence of vivid color and expressive brush stroke. His goal in painting is to recreate on canvas what he is experiencing inside, from high states of agitation and angst to feelings of calm. Incorporating vibrant colors and layering textures on the canvas, he strives to reconstruct a path through his emotional world that produces areas of high kinetic energy and serenity on the canvas. Co-sponsored by Weir Farm Art Center and Weir Farm National Historic Site and presented by Wilton Library.  More info & register
Author Talk: Anne Gardiner Perkins, Yale Needs Women: How the First Group of Girls Rewrote the Rules of an Ivy League Giant
Tuesday, September 10 @7pm
In the summer of 1969, young women across the country sent in applications to Yale University for the first time. The Ivy League institution had finally decided to open its doors to the nation's top female students. The landmark decision was a huge step forward for women's equality in education. However, this first class of women found themselves in an overwhelmingly male culture. Yale Needs Women, an unflinching account of a group of young women striving for change, is an inspiring story of strength, resilience, and courage that continues to resonate today. Anne Gardiner Perkins attended Yale University, where she earned her BA in history and was the first woman editor-in-chief of the Yale Daily News. Books will be available for purchase and signing courtesy of Elm Street Books. Media sponsor is GOOD Morning Wilton More info & register
