CO-PRESIDENTS' LETTER
Dear Saxe Parents,
Autumn is finally here and, as the temperatures outside begin to cool down, our
annual
CELEBRATE SAXE
campaign is starting to heat up! Launched on Friday with
great fanfare,
CELEBRATE SAXE
is the PTC’s annual fundraiser and the only time
we’ll ask for a monetary donation. Here are several ways your family’s contribution
can make a difference:
- Your gift supports PTC programs and faculty grants NOT covered by the district budget.
- All grants go through an extensive vetting process, starting with approvals from curriculum/department heads and the administration. Grants are then voted on by the PTC Executive Board and applied this school year.
- PTC donations fund numerous social events during the year, including the Welcome Back Coffees, the 5th grade Fun Run and 8th grade graduation celebrations. They also support visual and performing arts assemblies, visiting authors as well as parent education series.
- Celebrate Saxe donations also finance the PTC’s faculty grant program. Last year the PTC purchased a HoloLens for 7th grade science classrooms and the STEM lab, a dozen light pole banners to enhance the exterior of Saxe, four water-bottle filling stations for each wing of the school, rainbow parachutes for special education students as well as additional bike racks for student use.
This year’s
CELEBRATE SAXE
campaign runs until October 13 and every gift counts.
Our goal is to raise $100,000 with 100% parent participation, so help us make that
happen! Your child’s academic experience, both inside and outside the classroom,
will be immeasurably enriched.
CELEBRATE SAXE
and donate now!
With gratitude,
Geri Mohr and Patty Zocolillo, Saxe PTC Co-Presidents

GREETINGS FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear Saxe Parents,
It has been an amazing start to the 2019-20 school year. Saxe Middle School is truly a special place and I feel honored to be part of this wonderful community. As we continue into the school year, one of the most important PTC events of the year is upon us.
CELEBRATE SAXE
is a tremendous collaborative effort that has traditionally supported resources and experiences that allow our teachers to dream a little and provide opportunities for your children that may not be otherwise possible.
We look forward to sharing some past success stories that
CELEBRATE SAXE
has made possible and genuinely appreciate any and all participation in this meaningful fundraiser. Thank you to all who are involved and committed to making Saxe Middle School continue to be the best we can be.
Sincerely,
Dave Gusitsch
Principal, Saxe Middle School

CELEBRATE SAXE Annual Fundraiser
September 27-October 11
OUR GOAL IS 100% FAMILY PARTICIPATION! Many thanks to those who have already given to our school’s only major fundraiser! We hold this event in the fall so the funds can be put to good use, as soon as possible, during the school year. Every dollar counts! Please bring your checkbook or credit card to your child’s Open House this week or

to donate right now!
As part of the campaign this year, we are so excited to have two-time Olympic Gold Medalist and two-time World Cup Champion Kristine Lilly speak on the Power of Teamwork, during a special assembly on Wed, Oct 2. Saxe Library—Making Reading Easy!
The library has pulled together about 100 recommend books per grade on easy-to-access grade-level carts and an online catalog with titles and descriptions. Library staff partner with the language arts department to support the different curriculum units and get students to read as many books as possible. Students in 5th and 6th grade have all year to read their specific titles and take part in the "Battle of the Books" game in June. This
Jeopardy
-style game challenges each language arts class to answer the most questions on the books. In 7th and 8th grade they have book talks and an interactive website. Click below to see each grade's online catalog. The mission at the Saxe Library is to "provide extraordinary support and service to our learning community."

Donate Your Used Computers
For almost two decades, Computers for Kids program has been collecting and fixing up gently used computers at Saxe to give to families in need. If you know a child or family in need of a computer, please contact
Patty Potts.
If you have an unused laptop or desktop computer to donate, please bring it to the Saxe Lower Division Security Desk labeled with your name and address. Laptops are in especially high demand. Community member Julius Alexander prepares the CPUs for us, custodian Bob Tonucci organizes stock and finds monitors, keyboards, etc. to work with the CPUs, and our Saxe Lower Division Security Staff accept donations and help recipients pick up their "new" computers. This program would not run without their generous help, and new volunteers are always welcome.
