St. C's cross
From the Rector's Desk
The Rev. Ledlie I. Laughlin
Rector, St. Columba's Episcopal Church, Washington, DC
Friends,

I write to tell you that I have been called to serve as the next rector of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in San Francisco, California. As many of you know, my ministry began in California, and I’ve always thought of it as home; I’m grateful for the opportunity to return. While I’m excited about the new place where God is leading, it won’t be easy for me to leave St. Columba’s: some of the richest spiritual experiences of my life have happened to me here. When I served as youth minister, I talked a lot with our young people about the Celtic idea of a “thin place,” a place where the veil between heaven and earth is easier to cross, where it’s easier to experience God’s presence. St. Columba’s has certainly been a thin place for me.

I have learned much about what really matters here, and I’m a better priest and a better person because of everything you have taught me. Thank you for your support and your generosity of spirit. There is a real excitement for the future at St. C’s these days: new adventures are on the horizon for you too! I’ll be watching from a distance and praying for you every step of the way. I hope you will do the same for me.

My last Sunday at St. Columba’s is November 3. Please join me on that day to celebrate the journey we have been on together.

Peace,
Jason

Dear Ones,

I am very excited for Jason and this new calling in ministry. St. Luke’s, San Francisco is fortunate to have called him; Jason is a gifted priest and will be a very fine rector. That said, I am sad to lose him as a colleague and we will miss him at St. Columba’s. I give thanks for Jason’s ministry among us, exercising leadership for our youth, creative and well-planned worship, outreach, and so much more. Let us create a joyful day on November 3 to say Godspeed with our love.

Peace!
Ledlie
