Whitehead Runs at Woodbridge Cross Country Classic

Adam Whitehead traveled to the prestigious Woodbridge Cross Country Classic in CA over the weekend, to race against top regional competition. He ran in the Varsity B Gold Race, and placed 5th with a blazing 15:11 over the three mile course. 

Great Job Adam! 

The rest of our HS Cross Country Chargers competed at the Doug Conley Invite in Tempe on Saturday. Full results from that race can be found here:

Chargers Swim Competes at AJ Multi 

The Arete Prep Swim Chargers competed in a multi meet at Apache Junction last Thursday, swimming against AJ, Gilbert Christian, and St. John Paul.
The Chargers came away with some 1st place finishes, including:

Luke Nicholas: 1st in the 50 Free (23.99)
Sloan McLellan 1st in the 200 free (2:18)
Mandy Zajdzinksi 1st in the 200 free (2:03)
Georgia Sterling 1st in the 100 Breakstroke

We also have swimmers who had provisionally and automatically qualified for states, based on current PR's, including:

Luke - provisional in 100 fly, automatic is 100 back, and 50 free
Georgia - provisional in 500 and 50 free, automatic in 100 back
Jana - provisional in 50 free
Mandy - provisional in 100 breast, automatic in 50, 100, and 200 free.
Both our men's and women's 200 free relays have their provisional cuts as well!

This week's meet:

Thursday - at Chandler High School (350 N. Arizona Ave Chandler, AZ 85225) Cross streets are Arizona Ave and Erie, go west on Erie, the pool will be on the south side. This meet will be against small schools again, and we will have 2 swimmers in each event, but there will only be one heat of each event (as opposed to 2 at the Apache Junction meet,) Students will be released from school at 2:20, warm ups will begin at 3pm.

Advanced Archery Begins 9/23

Our National and World qualifying Advanced Archery team begins the '19-20 season on Monday. The team will once again be led by NASP Coach of the Year George Portillo. The season begins Monday 9/23, with a team meeting at 3:45 in Arete Prep classroom 101.

All Archers need to have a completed sports physical on file, and must have completed registration to begin participation. The MTBI and Brainbook Courses are not required. Enrollment info can be found here:

Beginning Archery (Spring) is a prerequisite for becoming a member of the advanced team.  All Archers will require a lock on their bow case, for it to be stored on campus during the school day.

Jamie showed incredible heart, determination, and commitment to the sport, by swimming the 100 fly for the final time at Thursdays meet, earning a PR and setting a great example for her teammates to not back down from challenges.

We have redesigned the Varsity Letter that was distributed at Fall Sports Awards. IF YOU ARE ORDERING A JACKET, please contact Coach Conklin to receive the new letter. Please keep in mind that jackets take 7-8 weeks for production. We are very excited to see school pride represented in Varsity Jackets around campus! Jackets are dress code approved but may only be worn by the owner.

REGISTRATION FOR A SPORT


1. Complete the Athletic Online Enrollment. (Must be completed by a parent/guardian.) 

2. Every athlete must submit a physical on the approved AIA Physical Forms. Physicals are good for 12 months and must be resubmitted annually. 

3. Submit the athletic fee. All middle school sports (including archery) are $250. All high school sports are $290. Select Online Payment to pay by debit/credit card online, or you may submit cash, check, or money to the front office. 

4. (HS ONLY) If not previously completed, every high school athlete must complete the Brainbook Concussion Course. The AIA will notify Arete electronically once the student has successfully completed the course. High school athletes are required to complete this course only once during their high school career. 

All items must be completed and turned in before your student may participate in their sport.
