The Kolmac Academy Presents Carlo C. DiClemente, Ph.D. ABPP

Is Relapse and Recycling Necessary for Recovery?

Dr. Carlo DiClemente is an emeritus professor of psychology at the University of Maryland Baltimore County and director of several training centers at UMBC. He is co-developer of the Transtheoretical Model of behavior change, and author of numerous scientific publications on motivation and behavior change with a variety of health and addictive behaviors. He published the second edition Addiction and Change: How Addictions Develop and Addicted People Recover in 2018 and he has co-authored several professional books, The Transtheoretical Model, Substance Abuse Treatment and the Stages of Change (second edition), and Group Treatment for Substance Abuse: A Stages of Change Therapy Manual (Second Edition) and a self-help book, Changing for Good

This training seeks to answer the question, “Is relapse a chaotic and random event denoting failure or a necessary part of the process of recovery?”.  Change is a complex multidimensional process that involves multiple tasks identified by the stages of change. Both addiction and recovery are best viewed as a learning process. Most individuals make multiple attempts to modify the problematic drinking behavior before they are successful. This talk will explore the function of relapse and how it can begin to be understood as a critical event that can promote or undermine ultimate success.  Recycling through the stages of change enables individuals with alcohol and substance use disorders to master critical stage tasks in a manner that supports significant and sustained change.

Early registration is $15.00 until October 18th. During the week of the event, registration is $20.00. The cost includes lunch, training and 2 CEUs.

The fee is non-refundable.

We look forward to seeing you on Friday, October 25, 2019!
