Principal's Message
March 3, 2017
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP,

At OLQP, learning takes many shapes and forms. The halls are filled with "horses" and cowboy hats, bandanas, and boot-wearing boys and girls. The school-wide kick-off of the Texas Road Trip has begun. The day started with a sing-along of "Deep in the Heart of Texas."  Each class has its own "twist" on the project but topics include characteristics of landforms, Texas history- people and places, sources of energy, and more. In Pre-K, students are riding hobby horses. Bluebonnets were being painted in kindergarten. A middle school and first grade cooperative lesson involved a chuck wagon loaded with "grub" and storytelling.  Research shows that when an enriched environment is provided, students are able to make stronger connections and learning becomes more robust.
OLQP students and staff joined the universal church in Ash Wednesday prayers and reception of ashes. Lent ushers in small changes that can have a big impact. The Divine Mercy Chaplet and Stations of the Cross become the weekday prayers. Students and staff leave morning prayer in silence. The solemnity acknowledges that during this time, we are all making a conscious effort to honor the penitential nature of the season and grow in holiness according to God's will for each of us. Thank you for being part of the mission and ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.
Principal

The Girl Scouts are accepting new toy donations ($5 and under) and/or cash donations (no checks) until March 24th. Boxes are located throughout the school for the toy donations and monetary donations may be sent to the front desk.
