SVUSD Facilities Master Plan
|
|
Saddleback Valley Unified School District recognizes that when it comes to educating our children, facilities matter. It is for this reason that the District undertook a Facilities Master Planning effort to identify the improvements needed at each school site to provide our students with the best education possible. With many SVUSD schools built more than 40 years ago, it is time to make essential repairs and improvements so our schools can serve our community for decades to come. We want students to graduate ready for success in college and careers, and this requires a solid background in science, math, engineering and technology, as well as a strong skillset using today's technology. We also want students to attend classes in safe and updated learning environments. With these goals in mind, the SVUSD Board of Education is considering placing a local school improvement bond measure on the March 2020 ballot. Exploring our local funding options is a community-driven process, and we want to hear from you. For additional information, please visit the Facilities Master Plan (FMP) page on our website below. Students throughout the district participated in Patriot Day activities in observance of 9/11. In this photo, Cordillera Elementary students watched as the Cub Scouts of Pack 703 performed a Patriot Day flag ceremony in the Cordillera courtyard. Students, staff, and community members participated in the ceremony.

Boys and Girl Scouts from Portola Hills Elementary School led the flag ceremony as the student body assembled to pay tribute to the heroes of 9/11. Principal Ed Macnevin said, "On this National Day of Service and Remembrance, we pay tribute to the lives lost. Through these acts and quiet gestures, we can honor their memory and reclaim our sense of togetherness."

On September 12, Portola Hills Elementary celebrated the completion of their campus remodel with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by PHE staff, families, students and community members. SVUSD Board Members, Superintendent, Dr. Turner, and District Office staff, as well as members of the Measure B Citizens Oversight Committee were also in attendance. Following the ceremony, guests were able to tour the campus.
A big thank you to the construction team and SVUSD staff that oversaw the project!

This year the PSAT exam will be held on Saturday, October 19 at each of our four comprehensive high schools. There are a limited number of tests still available to purchase, so please contact your school's student store or guidance department ASAP if you are interested in participating. Please note, per College Board's requirements, school sites can only host the exam on one date. Unfortunately, this does not allow our high schools to offer a make-up PSAT day. To learn more about the PSAT, please click the link below.

At the September Board Meeting, Laguna Hills High School Senior, Sam Tullis, was sworn into the office of Student Member of the Board of Education for the 2019-20 school year. This is Sam's second year representing LHHS at SVUSD Board meetings, his first as the Student Member of the Board. Each year, every high school selects one Student Representative to attend monthly School Board Meetings. These representatives give reports to the Board, Cabinet members and attendees on news and happenings at their sites and local elementary and intermediate schools.
