Dear Friends,
After two devastating floods in Ellicott City, our community has united to stand strong in the face of adversity and prepare for the next storm. Last week, Senator
Chris Van Hollen
announced the passage of
future funding
to support local flood mitigation efforts.
I'm grateful for federal partners like Senator Van Hollen for championing our cause at the federal level and securing this funding, which communities like Ellicott City can apply for. Along with my
Ellicott City Safe and Sound
plan, his leadership remains critical to our collective efforts to safeguard our future and support the resilience of Ellicott City.

Remembering the U.S. Constitution
|
On September 17, in 1787, the U.S. Constitution was signed in Philadelphia. This Constitution Day, “We the people” celebrate the principles, enshrined in our founding document, that unify us all.
Throughout the passage of time, our Constitution has endured as a framework for our government, a defense of our liberty, and a vision for our country. Today is a chance to celebrate our fundamental freedoms and rights, guaranteed in our democracy. As we remember the words defined in the Constitution, let us renew our collective work to make “a more perfect union” together.

Office of Emergency Management
With a week left to go this National Preparedness Month, our Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has a question for you: What would you do if your cell phone wasn’t working during a disaster?
Most of us are used to constant connection, especially our kids. Unfortunately, sometimes during a disaster technology can fail us. That’s why, as you develop your family’s
emergency plan
, be sure to include a part about communications to ensure family members stay connected during an emergency. Your communications plan should include BOTH an in-state and out-of-state emergency contact. While lines may be tied up in the immediate area of a disaster, you may be able to get a call to someone out of the state. Make sure everyone in the family has back up methods of communication and knows your emergency contacts! Visit FEMA’s
family emergency communications plan website
to learn more.
