A Look Ahead
Prime Time and the School District are excited to support phase one sites as they continue to soar in 2019-2020 (PSELI year three). With the new school year comes an opportunity to deepen adult practice and strengthen skills already gained. We look forward to watching positive change continue to unfold as sites tackle the many ambitious year three goals they identified based on their unique needs.

Here are just a few:
  • Continue to encourage all staff to adopt SEL practices.
  • Facilitate connections between school-day and afterschool program staff,
including mutual observations and joint meetings.
  • Incorporate SEL signature practices into everything such as pickup time from
afterschool and family events to professional learning community and all
faculty meetings.
  • Use site SEL team walkthroughs to assess fidelity of Morning and Afternoon Meeting.
  • Develop scope and sequence to fully integrate SEL into academic instruction.

Finally, here are some examples of the new system-level supports school sites can expect in year three:
  • Professional development and coaching will become more tailored to particular staff roles and address more advanced aspects of implementation, such as equipping afterschool directors to provide ongoing support to practitioners.
  •  Sites will identify school-day and afterschool staff to serve as “champions” for SEL. This new role will expand the reach of the site SEL team, provide a leadership opportunity for staff, ensure effective monitoring of site-level goals and enable better communication across campus.
  • Afterschool programs will receive support from a new family liaison specialist, who will help them engage families and maximize SEL benefits for children from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

We are so glad to share this SEL journey and can’t wait to jump into an incredible year three together!
Announcements
SEL Academy
presented by Prime Time Palm Beach County
A brand new calendar has been added to the PSELI website that includes trainings and events. Please visit the calendar and register today for the SEL Academy training series.

Please note some guidelines on who should register :

·         New staff/directors and returning directors and staff who have attended five or less SEL Academy trainings last school year are strongly encouraged to register for all eight trainings during the Fall to benefit from the process of learning what the Academy offers, and because the content has been recently adapted based on feedback from sites to meet current SEL implementation needs.

·         Directors and staff who are graduates (who completed six or more SEL Academy trainings) should aim to attend two or more trainings during the fall series as a refresher.

We are working to have a one-hour SEL Basics Onboarding self-paced online training module for new staff to familiarize themselves with SEL as part of their orientation process. This should be available in September 2019. In the meantime, if you have new staff, please schedule a session with SEL Specialist Knellee Bisram to orient them on PSELI and SEL basics at your site. This can be done during a staff meeting or Tuesday to Thursday, and most Fridays.

Please Welcome New Additions to the Team
The School District of Palm Beach County SEL resource teachers will provide coaching and support to three to four phase 1 sites, help facilitate professional development and cross-site interaction, and help document progress on site-level SEL goals.
More about new PSELI team members have been posted on the PSELI website. Check back often for updates, news, training dates and more.
