Ash Wednesday Service March 1, 6:30 p.m., UPC Sanctuary
|
Ash Wednesday emphasizes a dual encounter: we encounter our own mortality and confess our sin before God within the community of faith. The service focuses on the dual themes of sin and death in the light of God’s redeeming love in Jesus Christ. The use of ashes as a sign of mortality and penance has a significant history in both Jewish and Christian worship. The imposition of ashes is a powerful nonverbal way of participating in the call to repentance and reconciliation.
Please join us as we enter into darkness to mark the beginning of Lent.

Amplify UPLift during Austin's Annual Day of Giving March 2 and 3
|
Amplify Austin Day is our city’s annual community-wide day of online giving. The 24-hour period provides an easy, fun way for our entire community to give together while helping local nonprofits. Over the past four years, Amplify Austin has raised over $24.7 million for hundreds of local nonprofits. In 2016, 40 percent of the 61,625 Amplify Austin donations were first time gifts to nonprofits. Amplify raised $8.5 million for more than 600 Central Texas nonprofits in 2016!
This is the second year that the UPC UPLift financial assistance program has participated in Amplify. Last year, UPLift received $9,466.67 in one day of online giving.
With your help, we can beat that amount. Watch for special emails and Facebook posts between now and Friday. Share with your friends and family, and help Amplify UPLift for 2017!

Faith & Grief Gathering March 9
|
The Mission of Faith & Grief Ministries is to provide ongoing comfort to persons who have experienced the death of a loved one. As we prayerfully discern our mission, we value most the gifts of the Holy Spirit’s gentle and restless source of comfort; community that understands grief and mourning; compassion revealed in silence, listening, tears, and surprising laughter; stories that speak truth in love and promote wholeness; and collaboration that joins strength to strength. The Austin area Faith & Grief Gathering occurs March 9, at noon, Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action).
Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"
