Greetings to you! How are you today? Hope you are doing well. Depending upon the context of when it is used the word, “marathon” has a multitude of meanings. If it is in the context of running it usually refers to a distance race of 26.2 miles. If you’re looking to fuel up your vehicle the word could refer to the name of particular brand of gas stations. If it refers to
The Lord of the Rings
it usually means a long day of watching movies based on the books by J.R.R. Tolkien. If it refers to the 2019 Grade School Marathon then it means a special opportunity to support Catholic education here in Columbia Heights.
Every year on the first Saturday of October we come together as members of the Immaculate Conception Parish Family to walk, bike, run, skate, or hover board to raise funds and awareness for the grade school. For the last couple of years our parish family and kind-hearted benefactors have generously raised more than $25,000 that has then been utilized for the needs of the school. Thank you very much to those of you who have given of your time, talent, and financial resources to make this event so successful.
The old adage that “it takes a village to raise a child” can certainly be applied to our school that celebrates its 80th year here in Columbia Heights. So many residents of Heights and proud alumni are grateful for their education of mind, body, and soul that they received here at ICS. If you feel called to contribute a financial gift please feel free to do so in a secure way through the school website:

.
Your support will continue to make it possible for the kids of our grade school to experience the love of Jesus Christ in a personal and transformative way in their educational journey. May the Lord bless you with a wonderful weekend and, God willing, I’ll see you at the starting line on Saturday for the 2019 Grade School Marathon!
Joy in Christ,
Fr. James
