PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT - MATH
Each week, we will be highlighting one of our programs or offering resources for the Radcliffe community to illustrate The Radcliffe Way!

Multi-sensory learning is incorporated into all classes at RCS, but it is extremely important in the way that Math is taught at RCS! Students are constantly working on math projects that involve all the senses, which is proven to increase retention and keep students more engaged in what they are learning. Here is a great article from Understood which gives some examples of incorporating multi-sensory instruction in Math and how it helps students recognize what numbers and symbols represent.

It is also extremely important that students spend time outside of school practicing Math skills on a daily basis. Telling time, elapsed time, and money skills are all important to practice on a daily basis using everyday scenarios. Here are some websites that have fun games that practice these math skills, plus many more:  
MOBILE APP

If you haven't yet, follow the instructions below to download Radcliffe's Private App. The App is a great tool where you can find the school directory, see calendar updates, and receive  push notifications for school closings and delays. Please reach out to Kelsey Aburn if you have questions about the App.
 
AN EVENING WITH PHYLLIS L. FAGELL

Radcliffe Creek School has partnered with Kent School to bring Phyllis L. Fagell, the inspiring author of  Middle School Matters  to The Garfield Center for the Arts in Chestertown, MD on Wednesday, October 16th. Middle school students will travel to Kent School during the school day on October 16th for a presentation. All are welcomed to attend this exciting event from 6:00-7:30 pm. This event is free of charge. Please invite your friends and family.


SPEECH AND LANGUAGE/ OT SERVICES

Be on the lookout for Speech-Language and OT permission forms coming home.  Please sign and return these forms as soon as possible so that your child can begin Speech-Language and/or OT soon!!
8TH GRADE TRANSITION

Please contact Debbie Cohee-Wright if you would like to meet to discuss your child's high school options for next year.  In the meantime, please complete the 8th grade questionnaire that will help us assist you in this process.
LISS GRANTS

Parents!

Grants can be a great way to obtain money for any special services, such as speech and language, occupational therapy, specialized tutoring, or summer camp.  The MD Department of Health has a program called Low Intensity Support Services (LISS) that can provide funds (up to $2000) for eligible students. Check out this link to see if your child qualifies for this program.

CHESTERTOWN HP FESTIVAL

Radcliffe Creek School will again host the "Potions Class" during Chestertown's HP Festival. Please come out and visit the Radcliffe tent (outside of the Garfield Center) on Saturday, October 5th, 2019.
