The mission of Trinity Church is to share Christ's love and grace in a vibrant community whose joyful spirit empowers people to do God's work.

SENIOR WARDEN'S NOTES
Did you know September is a kind of birthday of Trinity? The building we are in now was consecrated in September and the first service was held on September 13, 1959, at 5 PM in the building we now know as our Trinity. Much of this week’s newsletter item comes from Trinity Episcopal Church, 1877-2001, a book put together in 2001 by a parishioner named Pattie Cooke. She credits the Trinity History Committee of Dr. Donald Glover, Mrs. Micky Jamison (chair) and Dr. Conrad Warlick for helping to compile the information. She acknowledges many others, including Randall and Sug Clingenpeel “for their collecting and compilation of documents” and Waldo Beck for “reading the manuscript”. Many other Trinitarians were involved in the collection of data and the funding for publication of the manuscript. There are still a few copies of the red history book floating around; ask in the office if you’d like to read one.

According to Trinity Episcopal Church, “On the 7th of July 1877, a new congregation gathered together… individuals driven by their own reasons and beliefs” (p. 26). Prior to that, St. George’s had been the only Episcopal Church in Fredericksburg and a former pastor of St. George’s, Rev. Dr. Edmund Murdaugh, was called to be the first priest. It is thought that about 50 communicants organized the first Trinity congregation and within the year “112 communicants transferred from St. George’s to Trinity” (p.27).
Did you know the bell in our small bell tower was moved from the previous church site, the building now used by the Fredericksburg Full Gospel Church on Prince Edward Street? The bell was cast specifically for Trinity in 1881, so when our bell peals on Sunday mornings, you are hearing 138 years of Trinity history. Some earlier parishioners had hopes of building an actual bell tower but that dream was diminished by other pressing financial needs of the parish. When we rang our bell for an event of history a few weeks ago, we were also using a piece of our own history.
That’s where we started. The question before us now is, where are we going?

Our time of transition will lead us into the next chapter of our history. A survey will soon be distributed by the Discernment Committee that will give us the opportunity to reflect and anonymously record our beliefs and wishes about what Trinity should be. Our next rector will be called based on the parish profile derived from the survey and other sources of information.

So please prayerfully and diligently complete the survey you will receive soon and turn it in to the committee in the way they request. Each of us has been offered the opportunity to have a voice in the next chapter of Trinity’s history.

The UTO FALL INGATHERING will be this Sunday, September 29

We have so many reasons to be thankful and sharing of our resources helps us express our gratitude to God and allows us to share our blessings with others. 100% of all offerings go to support God's mission in the world. Thank you in advance for bringing your UTO boxes or envelopes with you as you attend church this Sunday.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS
Trinity Discernment Prayer

O Everlasting, Omniscient, and Loving God

We confess that our daily worries and concerns
often blind us to your voice and guidance in our lives.

We thank You for this time of change,
may it be an opportunity to grow together more closely
as followers of your son Jesus Christ
as we work to discern your path forward for our congregation.

We pray that You will watch over the Bishop, diocesan transitional
ministry team, the parish clergy, members of our vestry,
and the other leaders of our church as they lead us on a new path for our parish.

We pray for the members of the discernment committee
as they endeavor to do Your holy work in calling a new rector for Trinity.

We pray for all the members of our parish family during this time of transition
that we come closer to You and feel your presence in our hearts.

Amen.
