Course & Level Change Reminder
The last day to submit a course change request is today, Friday, September 6. Counselors will work to process submitted requests in a timely manner.

Level changes may be submitted to the counselors beginning Monday, September 16th.  Level Change Request forms may be downloaded from our website or picked up in the Counselors' Suite. Level Change Request forms must be signed by the student, parent, and teacher to be processed. The last day a level change can be made in a class for the first semester is Friday, October 4th.

When making schedule changes, Counselors do attempt to cause the least disruption to the schedule as possible. However, that is not always possible. By submitting the schedule change or level change form, you are authorizing your counselor to change your schedule if necessary (including teacher changes) to accommodate your requests.

September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. The month brings awareness to a topic not often talked about. Learning about the warning signs of suicide and suicide prevention resources during the month of September are great ways to educate yourself and others.

Suicide is a significant public health issue that currently ranks as the 2nd leading cause of death for ages 10-24. Yet, it is important to recognize that suicide is also one of the leading causes of preventable death in the United States.

Some warning signs include talking about wanting to die, feeling hopeless or being a burden to others, planning or looking for a way to kill themselves, withdrawing from family or friends, engaging in risky behaviors, and acting like there's no reason to live.

Crisis lines, grant programs, educational courses, and partnerships with local communities help highlight the warning signs and put people in touch with assistance. If a person is at risk for suicide, it's important to act right away.

If you are concerned about someone, talk with them, listen without judgement, express concern, provide hope, and get help. You can find help at Bellaire High School by talking with a trusted adult. Teachers, counselors, social worker, nurse, administrators, police officers, and other staff are available to assist.

If you are concerned about someone, talk with them, listen without judgement, express concern, provide hope, and get help. People in crisis and concerned friends and family members can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255 (800-273-TALK) to connect with support persons for emotional support and other services. This service is always available, 24/7.

Additional resources to help include:
  • The new Suicide Prevention Wallet Card (PDF) which identifies warning signs, specific steps to help someone, and resources to get help.
  •  The Texas Suicide Prevention Council is a collaboration effort throughout the state of Texas working together to reduce suicides in Texas by providing information, training, and resources.
  • The Trevor Project www.thetrevorproject.org provides an LGBTQ Crisis Hotline 866-488-7386
  • The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 800-273-8255 (800-273-TALK), Veterans press 1. Support for people who are deaf and hard of hearing: 800-799-4889. For Spanish speakers: La Red Nacional de PrevenciĆ³n del Suicidio: 888-628-9454.
  • People can call the Local Mental Health Authority, the Harris Center to be connected to mental health services.
  • The National Alliance on Mental Illness, NAMI,
  • The Texas Mental Health Program for Veterans is a community-based resource for veterans and their families struggling with suicide.
Remember, suicide is preventable. Know the Signs, Find the Words, Reach Out. By recognizing warning signs, knowing how to start a conversation, and knowing suicide prevention resources and where to turn for help, you have the power to make a difference. If you or someone you know is in an emergency, call The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK (8255) or call 911 immediately.
