Dear friends!

We are about to enter the most eventful month of the Jewish calendar. Whether you are familiar with all the nuances of the upcoming holidays, or just use it as an opportunity for introspection and gathering your family - it is always a good idea to dip apples into honey for a sweet new year! 

This year COJECO is celebrating its 18th Birthday and we know it will be absolutely remarkable! Please stay tuned for all the special events and celebrations by following us on Facebook and Instagram. 

So, what is October bringing us? Lots of unique holiday events! Sukkot for the families in New Jersey, Art Film Festival, the reading of translations of Yesenin, indoor and outdoor events for families, a klezmer concert, parenting lecture and more.  Our community is bustling with exciting programs and anyone can find something of interest for them! 

We want to wish you Shana Tova U'Metuka, Gmar Hatima Tova and Hag Sukkot Sameach! May this year bring you and your family health, peace and prosperity!
 
RJKrug is a Russian Jewish Heritage Program 
for families with school-age children

In  RJKrug you and your children will:

COJECO Network Organizations News and Events
On Sunday, September 22, 
Association of East-European Jewry 
organized  the 16th Annual Remembrance Day "No One is Forgotten".  This event honored the hundreds of thousands of Jews who perished during the Holocaust and commemorated those who were tragically murdered in Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, and other various parts of the former Soviet Union.
The event brought together Holocaust survivors, their children and grandchildren, community members and local NY officials. The memory of those perished will live on in the beautifully written essays by children and teenagers as part of the "Holocaust through the eyes of children" essay contest.  
 
 
 
The central part of the 2019 Art Film Festival is Tribute to Valentina Kropivnitsky (1924-2008) and Oskar Rabin (1928-2018), the pioneers of nonconformist movement in Soviet Russia, soon before the first anniversary of the death of Oscar Rabin on November 7th.

a book of selected translations of Sergei Yesenin by Anton Yakovlev, whose goal is

 New York Klezmer Series Present:

The transcendent Yiddish singer COJECO BluePrint Alumna Zhenya Lopatnik joins with a group of leading musicians who are revitalizing the sounds of traditional East European string bands. Join the Ternovka Ensemble for a performance of haunting folk ballads, rollicking klezmer instrumentals, and Yiddish anthems that you can't help but sing along with.

Shakshukah in the Sukkah

Celebrate Sukkot with other Russian-speaking families in our beautiful Roberts Family Rooftop Sukkah. Children and adults will engage in model sukkah building from recycled materials; younger kids will enjoy a sing-a-long led by a guitar-playing Russian-Israeli teaching artist; and babies will enjoy open-play activities. At the end, everyone will come together for shakshukah and other traditional Israeli dishes.

  The Bronfman Fellowship Application: 
Application is OPEN for Jewish High School Juniors - December 1st Deadline

The Bronfman Fellowship is a mong the most prestigious programs available to Jewish 
high school students of all backgrounds. Each year fellowship selects a diverse group of 26 students for a year-long experience, starting with an all-expenses paid, 5-week trip to Israel. The purpose of the Fellowship is to invest  i n a cohort of talented young Jews who will become leaders in all areas of Jewish  and public life.  Applicants must be in 11 th  grade, self-identify as Jewish,  and live in the United States or Canada.

 
This groundbreaking exhibition brings together more than 700 original objects and 400 photographs of Auschwitz, from over 20 institutions and museums around the world. 
Exhibition dedicated to the history of Auschwitz and its role in the Holocaust ever presented 
in North America, and an unparalleled opportunity to confront the singular face of 
human  evil-one that arose not long ago and not far away.

Russian-speaking Facilitators Needed for 
Virtual Senior Center Program

Using simple video-chat technology, homebound seniors participate in online programs facilitated by volunteers in a wide-ranging array of topics. Volunteers lead recurring classes from their home or office computer with a range of flexible scheduling options during the day, evening or weekend.  Facilitating one hour, interactive classes on diverse topics enables you and the homebound seniors to have meaningful interactions. 

Selfhelp is looking for Russian-speaking facilitators for the Virtual Senior Center, to participate  in one hour  class (on any topic that facilitator chooses: music and art appreciation, history, current events, seated exercise, games, health/wellness, sports, the sciences, cultures, travel, and literature. Any new ideas are welcome!)
