Programs and Events
The Charleston Interrelgious Council's 3rd annual James Sawers Jr. Interfaith Speaker Series will be held November 7-9, 2019. The speaker this year will be Dr. Wendy Cadge, Professor in the Department of Sociology at Brandeis University.
Professor Cadge’s research and teaching focuses especially on the intersections of religion and the sites of everyday lived experience, such as healthcare, higher education, and more. She will lead discussions about these topics and more, including “God Around the Edges: Moral Frameworks in Times of Crisis,” which will explore the work of chaplains and what scholars can learn about people and suffering. The series of free lectures and workshops are open to the public and will be held Nov. 7-9, 2019 at various locations around Charleston.

CIC elects new Board Member representing the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dr. David Goltra
The Charleston Interreligious Council has elected David Goltra as a new Board Member.
Dr. Goltra serves as the Director of Public Affairs for the Charleston Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in addition to being a renowned Radiologist in Charleston. He has practiced medicine for over 20 years and has a wonderful loving family which he treasures above all things. David is honored to be joining the CIC board.

Hindu Temple and Cultural Center of Charleston

The Charleston Interreligious Council is delighted to announce that its next Sacred Spaces Tour will be held at The Hindu Temple and Cultural Center of Charleston on October 20, 2019, 2:00pm at 1740 Jervey Ave
Charleston, SC 29407. Please join us as we learn about the vibrant Hindu community in Charleston.
The tour will conducted by a knowledgeable person of the Hindu community, who will offer a short presentation about the faith, about the space they hold sacred, and the community’s history in Charleston. The presentation is followed by a question and answer period and a small reception. Click here for more information

The Unitarian Church in Charleston has a new minster, the Reverend David Messner. He comes to Charleston after having been the minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Savannah for 7 years. He will serve in this position for 2 years. For more information about Rev. Messner, click

The Charleston Interreligious Council (formerly the Christian Jewish Council of Greater Charleston) is an organization that seeks to build bridges of understanding to promote sensitivity, tolerance, respect, and fellowship among religious groups.
