Greetings NTMCA Members!
It’s hard to believe that my year as President has come and gone so soon. When I think back over this last year and to the time when I first became Historian, I couldn’t imagine serving continuously for five years on the Board. My how time flies, like within the blink of an eye! I certainly couldn’t have done this without the support of my City, Committee members, and Board. I’m truly thankful for the Board’s hard work and dedication through one of my most difficult years. I encourage each one of you to serve on a committee, even chair a committee, and apply for a board position. You can make a difference!

Many thanks to Janice England and the City of Saginaw for hosting our August meeting. All enjoyed the food and hospitality of our host. The meeting was a big hit with our guest speaker, Gabe Reaume, City Manager for the City of Saginaw. He shared about his compassion and experiences he has had with service with the Sister Cities Program. He provided the group with an informational handout about applying to become a host for the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Professional Fellows Program. “The International City County Management Association (ICMA), with funding from the U.S. Department of State, offers the program an opportunity for young professionals from Southeast Asia to learn about good governance, economic development, environmental sustainability, and civic engagement through a four-week fellowship with a U.S. Local government host. Approval of FY19-20 Officers
|
During the August meeting, these were the FY 2019-2020 Slate of Officers accepted by the membership:
- Monica Solko (Lake Worth) – President
- Traci Henderson (North Richland Hills) – Vice President
- Erika McComis (Argyle) – Treasurer
- Dianna Buchanan (Haslet) – Secretary
- Tammy Dixon (Bartonville) – Historian
You’ll notice there was a change in the Historian position. Tina Stewart (The Colony) was originally presented; however, Tina had also applied for the Lone Star Chapter’s Secretary position. The NTMCA Bylaws don’t allow a member to serve on the board in two chapters. Tina accepted the Lone Star Chapter’s Secretary position. Congratulations Tina, you will serve them well!

We have an exciting future to look forward to as a chapter, and it’s important that the challenge and support the chapter receives from its members, facilitates this. Please consider using your exceptional skills and talents on a committee. Your contribution, time, involvement and expertise will help drive our chapter forward.
Chapter committees do a lot more than just setting up the Holiday Party or planning the Professional Seminar. Oftentimes, committees are a way to get involved in important Chapter business, such as bylaws, drafting the budget, and advancing new technology. Working on a committee can allow you to demonstrate leadership and help you stand out from the pack
Here are some things to keep in mind while you consider joining a committee:

Who doesn't want to have a finger on the scale? Serving on a committee gives you an opportunity to influence decisions that could really impact the Chapter and membership

Committee work can be a refreshing way to break up your day-to-day schedule and breaks the monotony of normal tasks.

Not only will you get to exercise different skills, you will also interact with members of the Chapter that you might not get to see or spend time with. Committee work can help
expand your membership

You'll Expand Your Knowledge Base
Committee work can allow you to dip your toes into a variety of new knowledge pools, such as planning an amazing Professional Seminar or helping to raise funds for the Alyce Deering Scholarship Committee. You'll gain experience and a better picture of what it takes to run Chapter events.
It's a Chance to Demonstrate Leadership
If you're looking to stand out, succeeding on a committee is one way to do so. Whether it's organizing the best holiday party the Chapter has ever seen, or
revamping the bylaws
, committee work is a good way to show that you know what it takes to get a job done successfully.

Tarrant County Elections - New Voting Equipment
|
|
For cities that contract with Tarrant County Elections, there a few new changes coming your way. Last year, they started by adding electronic poll books to the check-in process, by doing this they eliminated a bottle neck in the check-in process. Last month they took the next step, and bought new voting machines. Starting this November, you will vote in a Hybrid system (HART Intercivic Verity Voting system v. 2.3.1): you will first come up to a touchscreen to make your choices, and when you are done, the machine will print out your choices on your ballot. You will then be able to review your ballot before you go to a separate machine, a scanner, to insert it and have it counted and deposited in the ballot box. From now on every voter in Tarrant County will all have a paper trail and will vote the same way, whether it’s during Early Voting or on Election Day. The last change is yet to be approved by the Secretary of State (SOS). Tarrant County has applied for the Vote Centers program the day after they purchased the voting machines. If the SOS approves their application, citizens will be able to vote at any location in the County on election day.
ACTION REQUESTED
: Tarrant County Elections is asking that entities that contract with them take official action by adopting a resolution on the new voting system to be used during elections. This will need to be done before your next election.

October Graduate Institute - President's Celebration
We hope you can join us as we celebrate Kim Sutter’s service as TMCA President. After Kim hands over the reins in October at the Graduate Institute in Fort Worth, you are invited to join us for an evening of dancing, laughs, and fellowship. This event is privately funded, but if you want to help, please consider purchasing a Super Clerk pin for yourself and others in your office. The cost is $5 per pin.
