eChimes for July, 2019
From the Pastor's Mac

Christmas in July

Hobby Lobby has their Christmas decorations out. The Hallmark Channel is advertising all the Christmas specials they’ll show this month. Walmart is bringing out the Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes, this month only! It’s “Christmas in July.”

Which is fine by me.

Christmas in July, in the more literal sense, can remind us that we Christians have an incarnational faith. It’s good to remember that Immanuel— God with us —comes to us “disguised as our life” as Paula D’Arcy puts it.

What does that mean?

God meets us in the ordinariness of our human lives: in the song on the radio, the stillness of the morning, or a knowing smile from a friend. God comes to us in ways that don’t seem very “spiritual”—interruptions, chores, even challenges. If we can open our hearts enough, we can recognize God’s fingerprints all over the mundanity of our finiteness.

That’s what it means to have an incarnational faith—to recognize God with us in all things, in all places, in all people.

So Merry Christmas in July, Chapel! May you know the hope, peace, joy, and love of a God who dares to join us in our humanity.

Love and light,

Rev Blev

Health Benefits for Seniors that Socialize!

There are a number of ways that Seniors can improve their health through social activities!

Benefits:
·  Stress Reduction
·  Longer Lifespan
·  Increased physical fitness
·  Reduced risk of depression and anxiety
·  Improved self esteem

Simple activities that seniors can benefit from socially:

  • Join a Senior Center – a social club for older adults that offer classes, activities and day trips. Transportation is often provided as well as hot meal. Many of these centers are non-profit and government subsidized so the cost can be minimal.
  • Learn – an active mind is a happy mind and learning can slow the progression of cognitive loss (memory issues). Many colleges offer free classes for older adults.
  •  Play – physical games (tennis, shuffleboard, bowling) or table games (crosswords, puzzles, suduko) can be done with friends!
  • Volunteering in your community – creates opportunity to socialize, network and increase  self-image.
  •  Find a new hobby or rediscover an old one. Art, crafts, photography, and genealogy are all activities that can be done in a group or a club!

Getting Started:

Search Google for local senior center, clubs or activities. Join the local YMCA and take senior classes, the YMCA can be a social mecca! Come to church and see what Chapel By the Sea is offering! We have   Bible studies, and social programs, including field trips, and a walking club!

Faith Day With the Rays

Thanks to a generous benefactor the Jolley Trolley headed to Tropicana Field on June 15 to see the Rays-vs-Angels.  Fun was had by all even though the Rays were outscored by the Angels.

Happy
Encore Event II: July 9, 2019, 11:00 am
The Chapel Chicks will be holding an encore event on July 9 at 11am in the Conference Room. Together we’ll watch “Happy,” a documentary from the filmmakers who brought you Long Night's Journey Into Day, Beyond the Call, and the Oscar nominated Genghis Blues. The film treks across countries and continents in a search for humanity's most elusive emotion. “Happy” seeks to share the wisdom of traditional cultures and the cutting edge science that is now, for the first time, exploring human happiness. Through powerful interviews, the one-hour sixteen-minute documentary explores what makes people happy across the world.
After the viewing, we’ll walk or drive to a nearby restaurant and enjoy lunch together.
No registration needed—just show up!

parkinglot
Parking

Parking is available in the church parking lot, and the entire City lot across the street. The parking charges on Sunday don’t start until 12:30 p.m. so that parking for church is free.

The Chapel currently contracts with Florida Parking Co. to    manage our lot outside of Sunday service hours. There is a solar    kiosk along with an attendant on duty during peak parking times.  Church members and guests can park free for events and meetings at the church. If you come for a meeting or event when an attendant is on duty, simply tell them you are here for church business and that will suffice. You may also place a church bulletin on your dashboard to ensure the attendant knows you are a Chapel By The Sea member.
